88. Thanks! Jamie's a fighter.
She was found under a bridge with her littermates at 4 weeks. Someone dumped them. Jamie was the last to be placed because she had a crooked tail. She's now 16 and still kicking.

18. No, but there is a story
The one on the left, Busby, is a male.
We had him for three years before the one on the right, Karri, a female, appeared on our property one day.

She was living in the wood pile in our back yard and was just a tiny little kitten at the time, about 10 weeks old when we discovered her.

For about a week I fed her but she would not let me near her.
She would *hiss* at me if I got too close.
Eventually though I was able to trap her in a havahart trap and then the fun began.
She was feral and we had no idea how to deal with this cat.
I did some research on the internet and learnt that the best way to go about rehabilitating a feral cat was to isolate it in a small cage for a short time then in a room on it's own and then eventually into the house.

Well, at first, we couldn't even look at this cat. She would hiss at us and if we picked her up, she would poo and pee everywhere. The poor little thing was that terrified of people.

But then we introduced her to Busby and the sudden change in her was unbelievable.
I swear he was teaching her how to go about things. He would go up to her and then come up to us and sit in our laps, like he was showing her that we were ok.
Well, she adored him immediately and wouldn't leave his side. It was like he had become her surrogate 'mother'.
She would follow him everywhere and watch what he did and then she'd start doing the same things. She idolised him and still does.

It's been two years since then and now Karri is a normal cat, albeit a tad skitty, who absolutely loves affection and pets.
And she follows me around everywhere and is still madly in love with Busby.

I really think that without Busby, we would have had a much more difficult time rehabilitating Karri.

:)

Who, by the way, just tried to murder a lizard. Why oh Why does he promptly bring them in the house when he catches them? Why can't he stay out on the lanai? When he brings them in the house to play with one, I actually have to let him catch the poor bugger again because it's too fast for me. Then I save it.

Yesterday he jumped up on my desk for some attention, as he usually does. Something freaked him out (though I still have no idea what) and he literally flew off the desk right at me, digging his claws into my forearm. What a freak. But I love the little bastard.

He has 'mischief' written all over his little face.

You know the reason why he brings what he catches inside is because he's giving it to you as a gift.
It's his way of saying "Thanks! Here's a little prezzie for ya."

You should be grateful for these little offerings of thanks. ;)

120. Does anyone have an American Bobtail?
When I first saw Amos, he was living in the woods across from my house. I thought he's been in a terrible accident, because his tail was only three inches long. When I took him in and took him to the vet, I found out that he was supposed to look that way! Anyway, he's a very friendly, high energy kitty who loves to play. Wish I could post a picture, but I don't have the technology.

121. Thanks sus! I'm thinking of entering him
in a local cat show that benefits the SPCA (it's a household pet contest, not a purebreed contest-Oberon is a Maine Coon, but a "pet quality" one). Attendees are supposed to donate money in the name of their favorite cat in the show, and the cat who makes the most in donations for the SPCA wins. I think he could do fairly well, but I'm worried about how freaked out he'd be. Has anyone here done cat shows? Maybe it would be a good experience for him in the end...I don't know.

79. He's awesome
It took him about, oh, ten minutes to bond with us! He is completely sweet and floppy. He only has two teeth (both of them canines). He had a horrible case of stomatitis (inflammation/infection of the gums) and had to have basically all of his teeth removed.

He's hardly suffering for it, though. Right now he's munching his way through part of a can of Smoked Sockeye Salmon. The abuse here at our house is inhumane, as I'm sure you can imagine.

The funny thing is, because he hardly has teeth, his tongue flops out a lot, so he looks a bit dumb. But he's very smart and sweet, and he can beat any of you up the stairs in our house (and he loves to race you!).

86. Thank you!
I'm a proud mom! And she really is sooooo soft. She is a fastidious groomer, too, so even with her long hair I never have to worry about matting. She's had quite a rough life (I'm her fourth--and final--owner) but despite all the trauma and upheaval she's experienced, you'd never know it to look at her beautifully groomed coat. (I think it must be vanity...she seems much too proper and dignified to ever let herself get all matted!) :)

87. Found an interesting cat pic

Story that goes with it.

My friend sent this photo (below) to me of her cat playing with the shower curtain in her tub. When my friend took the picture, she thought there was just ONE cat in the bathroom... until she saw the picture and realized that apparently the kitten had company! Even though the "ghostly" eyes in the tub belong to a real hidden kitty, it sure does look wild! Thought you would appreciate this!

Hepburn talks all the time. Tiffany is now very old (over 16) but she's still feisty as all get out. :-)

Balinese is a good breed, apparently. They've been great cats. I've had them for more than 12 years now.

116. I think I read that Balinese are very
intelligent and devoted-hard to leave alone at home for long periods of time, as I recall. I got Puck, my Turkish Angora, because of the Turk's legendary intelligence and sense of humor. She lives up to the breed's reputation, just as Oberon has a textbook Maine Coon personality. It's odd that temperment, intelligence, devotion, etc. can be bred into an animal just as blue eyes or build can.
