LOL! This is what I love about DU.. |
|
Someone here in the Lounge who dislikes me TOOK THE TIME AND EFFORT to go through the entire lounge and rate all my threads a "1"! These were threads that were on page 6 or 7!
Honey, whoever you are...I can promise you that *I* don't care enough about YOU to go through and find all your threads just to take the meaningless action to RATE them. You might try getting out from behind the computer once in a while and, oh, say, HAVING A LIFE. :)

I wonder if this is how the people of Tasmania feel when Australia maps leave it off.
Of course, some people feel it's better to completely remove their "map of tazzie" but I guess that's another issue.

This is why I don't like the ratings feature. There are people with a lot of time on their hands who do this. The ratings feature is awkward to use and easy to forget - until some vendetta occurs.

I just experiment with three different threads, gave them different ratings, and they all showed up right after I rated them. You expect me to believe there were 4 other people all voting for the same number at the exact same time? :)
Methinks you just wanted me to feel bad. ;-) But I don't, because people who rate threads are weenies!

You can sort the entire Lounge by author now. So all of a certain person's posts will be clumped together in one place.
Of course, it would be easier to rate all of *my* threads a "1". Sort by author, and I'm at the very last page. :(

If you have something bad to say about a thread, have the courage of your convictions and post it in the thread! Edited on Thu Jul-10-03 08:53 AM by carolinayellowdog
Hey Catpower,
I doubt seriously that this is happening to just you. I posted in GD last night that I thought the ratings there were getting freeped, in some organized effort to go through and give *all* threads 1 ratings. A whole lot of threads on back pages that had no ratings suddenly showed up with 1s. I had one with a 4 suddenly fall to 2.5. In the ensuing discussion it was first alleged that it took 5 individual ratings before a score would appear, but that was proven wrong. It was apparently changed, as some DUers experimented and found that a single rating would appear as a score.
Looks like the same freeping is now going on in the Lounge.

perhaps someone is negatively obsessed with you. I think being a little circumspect here is in order. That is very obsessive behavior and I'm a little worried about it. If whoever did it for a joke should let you know that but if no one comes forward (matcom) then this could be more serious. I would just be a little more alert. If there is anything I can do just let me know.

That's the kind of thing maybe someone should go see a shrink for. If I can't stand someone (like listening to bu$h when he's on TV, news etc), I just turn it off or walk away. Go do something productive like garden or read. Taking the time to stalk someone is not healthy. The "1 rater" could just as easily put the person on ignore and make their life so much happier. Don't wallow in dislike or hate, happiness is so much better.
Just my 1 minute psychological analysis.

in the Meeting Room. Some people can't stand others who are popular, especially when those others don't agree with them. It must bring incredible feelings of majesty and power to take an anonymous slap.
I agree, too, that it's better to post an opinion pro or con rather than hide behind a rating. A jury of one's peers right out in the open is far more meaningful, don't you think?
Personally, I think the ratings would be more appropriate in LBN and other hard news sections.
In any event, most people see right through those ratings with obvious agendas, and continue to read and post where they please.
Sorry about your pathetically inadequate stalker, cat. Now if that person would just identify him or herself we could all hit the ignore button.

39. I also hate the rating feature |
|
Someone rated my Harry Potter thread a 1 yesterday, and it really hurt my feelings. Now, I know that I'm too sensitive, but really, I don't understand the mentality behind giving people bad ratings. If someone doesn't like Harry Potter, DON'T READ THE THREAD! Having the rating feature is like having a popularity contest. I don't like feeling like I'm back in High School again.
But Cat, I always love your threads and posts. I think you rock.

Don't let the fuckers get you down. You'll find the more comfortable you get on DU, the more strongly you express your opinion, and the more people get uncomfortable with that. I've been called bitch, whiner, every name in the book, because I have the unmitigated GALL to actually stand up for some things I believe in! For a bunch of progressive Dems, you really can't believe how rigid some people are. :)
As far as the Harry haters, they are immaturely reacting to the hype surrounding HP while simultaneously denying the fact that there can be anything redeeming in the books. They're totally ignorant and uninformed, because you won't find 1 in 1000 who've actually read any of the books. They'd be hooked like we are if they had. :)

People who have 10,000 posts can be just as petty and vindictive as people who have 4 posts. More so, sometimes, because they think their high post count gives them the right to belittle others.

75. Well, here's how I look at it Maggie... |
|
When I first saw the ratings, I was pissed and a little hurt, for about half a second. Then I literally laughed out loud in my office. See, it's such a stupid thing to do if you don't like somebody, to try to make them feel bad about themselves. It's so petty and small. I guessed that others might have had their threads rated a 1 and felt shitty about it and didn't tell anyone. I wanted to post this right out loud to show the haters that I think it's a laugh riot, and to let others know that the thread ratings are bullshit and they shouldn't feel bad. Anyway, that was my reasoning.

Chalk it up to someone who can't compete and so they take a pathetic, anonymous jabs at the object of their envy.
Imagine the pitifulness of someone who has to use the rating system to make themself powerful and significant. Or better yet, don't.

That's incredibly sad. Whoever would rate you a 1 is just crazy, cat! :( I just got back from my driving lesson, but want me to bump up the ratings for ya?

Yeah actually, this guy almost hit me! :scared:
He pulled out of his driveway with the massive SUV and almost crushed my car! Otherwise it was all good. :(

Those things are a menace. The blind spots in them are terrible! Thank goodness you're okay. Remember, most of the time on the road, you won't hurt yourself, someone else will hit you! It's the other guy you have to watch out for!

Anyway, I love everyone here, especially you, Cat. :loveya: And if I didn't, I would come right out and say so, instead of anonymously low-rating threads. Forget the bastard.

86. Maybe it just means you're #1 in their book. |
|
They probably don't understand the rating system.
I feel stupid, cause I didn't know that anything went on at D.U. worth hating anyone about. (Not worth it to me. I occasionally try pretty hard to hold a grudge but I just can't hold on to them...)
In other software the lounge felt to me like being in the living room of someone's house, kind of cozy, with a few indecent exposures and hissy-fits every now and then. But with the views column and now this it's clear we are under cyber-siege. But for those ill-intensioned lurkers, it really is their problem. So far I have only used the rating system to give #5's to threads I thought were excellent or contained excellent articles. Otherwise I just don't rate them at all. This thread made me laugh and feel less alone, so I'll give it a 5, too. Chin up!!

74. They can. People can register, never post so never be tombstoned |
|
and vote in all the polls to make it appear a certain way and vote on all ratings to make it appear a certain way. They can disable their profile to not show post counts so they have all the power to be stealth and pull bullshit. Not a positive change in my opinion.
The so-called tyranny of post counts has been replaced by the tyranny of anonymity.

I'm going to needlepoint that on a pillow for you! ;-)
Seriously, I think you're absolutely right. As you know, I was on the other side about the post counts, but I'm starting to think they weren't that bad, at least compared to some of the new changes. Yes, some people strutted around like they owned the place, but at least we could see who they were!
