Krispy Kreme to Make Low-Carb Doughnuts
snip

"The way we're looking at it is we're going to assume that it is" here to stay, Scott Livengood, chief executive officer of the doughnut-maker, said at the company's annual meeting. "And we make our plans and do things in a, call it a worst case scenario. I think there is always a real possibility that people are going to decide a balanced lifestyle is appropriate for them and the dynamics will change again.

"But on the other hands we're not going to take anything for granted."

Krispy Kreme reported Tuesday that it lost $24.4 million in the first quarter, its first quarterly loss since going public in 2000. The company's stock has fallen by about a third in the past month.

1. Whata friggin joke! Atkins and low carb diets will be gone in 2-3
years.

Fads always come and go, and people buy into them.

4. Just curious, but how exactly ...
do donuts fit into a "balanced lifestyle"? I mean, really now ... a Krispy Kreme has between 200 and 300 calories, so one single donut is 10% or so of your daily calorie intake and probably no nutritional value.

I'm not against eating donuts, but I certainly am against junk food makers claiming their junk is anything other than what it is.

5. low carb has some merit for diabetics
but, as usual, everyone isjumping on this bandwagon.

We do not have Krispy Kreme here in Maine, but I saw in my local supermarket, Entemans is putting out a lo carb cake. :eyes:

At that rate, the lo carb diet will bomb out.

6. Er - why would anyone eat a low carb doughnut? Why don't they just make
them half the size and charge the same price for them. Then they can advertise them as half the carbs of the previous model, they will still taste as good and many people will want another one after eating the first one. Win-win. Jeez - I should have gone into marketing. I could do as well as these guys.

7. Atkins Shmatkins....
I'm skinny enough...too skinny actually

.... and I would eat Krispy Kreme donuts even if they contained arsenic.

They are building a location right by my house too...

How sweet it is.

9. Skeptical on what it'd taste like
The Russell Stover low-carb chocolates aren't bad (chocolate mints are especially good) but I can't imagine how a low carb donut would taste.

I whipped up some Atkins pancake and waffle mix out of curiosity over the weekend and....

:puke:

Some things are better left alone!
