or is this whole "XXX is on board" thing annoying? I don't really care. There are a zillion celebrities who donate to dems... do we need a thread for each one?

I'm on board. It's just that almost all of these threads are by a poster whose name indicates it's his website we're being asked to click through to.
Further, nobody posts a thread saying "Nicole Kidman is on board: she gave $2,000 to Kerry" with a link.
Instead it's just a link.
I think it's an attempt to drive up traffic at a website, and I don't like to see DU used that way.

9. It's hardly a means of driving up traffic... |
|
to be honest, I get 5 times more traffic from wacko freeps and other right-wing sites, which bugs me.
There's no advertising on the site, so there's no benefit to siphoning off DUers. The truth is, it's a helluva lot easier pasting a url than pasting the data in a non-confusing way. (look at the Ted Danson thread to see what I mean)
Besides, this is the lounge. I'm sorry some of the copy-catters are taking precious thread space away from cat tales...I know how important those are to the Democratic cause. :-)
Peace.

...the constant proliferation of "XXX is on board" threads may be useful for annoying lurking freepers -- but in truth, it's beginning to annoy me as much as the copycat threads do.
Why, no, I'm not in a bad mood at all -- just wishing this sort of thing would be limited to one or even two threads a day. There's already enough drek sinking more substantial threads.

I think ONE thread for celebrity donations would be great.
The fact is, there's really nothing to "discuss" in these threads. You look at the link and go "hrm".

According to your link she gave $1000 to Nick Clooney, who seems to be running for the House from Kentucky. That's the only contribution she's made in 4 years.

I actually think she can act, but she has had some hideous plastic work recently. I used to think she was one of the prettiest women out there, but now she looks severe and feline, but not in a good way. Glad to hear she's on our side, though.
This all makes me think of a dumb thing Michael Graham said when he was filling in for Glen Beck. He described all Liberals as being fat and whiny, using Michael Moore as the archtype, blah blah blah. Yeah, Nicole Kidman, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Janeane Garafalo, ALL fat and whiny...
