Rumor Mill in the NFL: Eddie George to be an Eagle????
I heard it on the local news report on WYSP out of Philly. Seems the Titans have a salary cap issue and the Eagles are very interested in Eddie George. George is a Philadelphia PA native and would love nothing more than to play in front of his home city.

Eddie George, Terrell Owens and Donovan McNabb all on the same team. Someone pinch me - I would be in HEAVEN!!!! (and on Broad Street the day after we win the Super Bowl)

1. Sounds good...but do we need him?
I think Westbrook and Buckhalter can do the job...

3. I don't think Eddie's the Eddie of old...
...but he could prove useful. He just can't do the job all by himself anymore.

He's one of the last Houston Oilers, so I wish for his success (along with McNair, the quarterback, not the owner of the Texans).

4. You sure?
He hasn't cracked 4.0 ypc in like 4 years or so. I don't know, I think he would be less of an impact then many would think which is why Tennessee Cut him.

5. Consider the Eagles running game last year
It was quite sucessful with a running game by committee with the job split between Staley, Westbrook and Buckhalter. But Staley, who probably would have been the 'feature' running back of that group, has left the Eagles.

Eddie George would be a great additional to that runningback tandem. And I think the home crowd would help inspire him!

6. Yeah but players get old
The average NFL span for a running back is 4 years. They don't last very long, he has done a good job in the durability department I'll give him that, but I think he kinda flamed out years ago. But maybe, the Eagles probaly have two many running backs. Actually wtf am I talking about? The Broncos have too many running backs. :silly:

11. You realize that he is like 50 years old don't you?
Okay that was a bit of a stretch but he was 28 or 29 when he won the Heisman at Ohio State.

16. I heard about this this morning
A bit on Eddie's situation with the Titans:

George is set to make $4.25M this year, but count $7.3M against the cap. Given the drop off in his performance the last few years and the Titans cap situation, the Titans are forced to make some kind of change. Titans GM Floyd Reese and George's agent, Lamont Smith, have been working for months to renegotiate the contract, but Smith and George have been unwilling to accept a pay cut.

On Tuesday, Titans owner Bud Adams told a reporter that he did not expect George to be with the Titans this season. So the Titans options at this point are pretty much trade him or cut him. A trade would be more in the Titans favor, as cutting him would still leave the Titans with a $3M cap hit.

The Titans drafted George's heir-apparent in Chris Brown (3rd Rnd, Colorado) last year. Brown was hampered by injury during his rookie season, but still made enough of a showing that the coaches seem comfortable with the idea that he could be the starter this year.

I would like to see George come back for at least one more season with the Titans, but I don't expect it. Look for Brown to be the starter in Nashville, and George to be platooning somewhere else.
