Officer's Taser is used on girl, 9
A veteran South Tucson police sergeant is under investigation for firing his stun gun to subdue a handcuffed 9-year-old girl.

At the request of Chief Sixto Molina, the Pima County Sheriff's Department is trying to determine if the sergeant committed a crime when he sent a jolt through the child's body.

The police officer used a Taser on the girl at about 5:30 p.m. May 8, Molina said. The nonlethal weapon uses a pulsating electrical charge to immobilize a person for several seconds.

"I'll be the first to admit, you've got a veteran sergeant Tasing a 9-year-old girl, it doesn't look good," said Molina.

7. Perhaps she was traveling with her family, a couple in their late
twenties to early thirties, and the officer was only following Asskroft's instructions. :eyes:

That makes me sick.

4. From article:
"The sergeant was one of at least two officers who responded to a call from the Arizona Children's Home, a school for special needs children, on South Eighth Avenue, he said.

'It had to do with a runaway from the institution,' the chief said. He declined to provide further details."

The exact characteristics of such "institution" have now picked my curiosity. For some reason I doubt it's a nice place to be.

9. Catch 22.
The girl ran away, we can only guess the reasons, but it sounds like she didn't like being where she was. So the officer decided she deserved a zap, to make the pain of where she was even more intense than the pain that occurred where she had run away from.

The officer could have been thinking, "Oh, you don't like it there? Try here . . . bzzt . . . . Now what do you think? Betcha really would like to go back to the "kinder" prison, huh? Maybe next time you'll stay there and not bother us anymore."

Pain compliance practiced on a child. How will this affect her when she's older?

10. As the mother of a nine-year old...
I'm appalled by this. My son is tall for his age, but that is still not very big. Considering that I could still "subdue" my teenager, if I had to, I simply can't think of an excuse for the officer's behavior.

I feel very worried about that child...
