19. Nah, too smart!
Though the individuals in Death In June may have far-right politics, their mystical bent is way over the heads of freeper types, and their music's emotive content is too complex. Freepers would just call 'em "faggots."

But my GF likes their stuff, so I'm thinking of going to their concert, being held in June.

Dunno, gonna have to listen to some of their material first though.

83. A lot of DIJ's music is actually really lovely.
Their nazi rep is partially undeserved (I stress partially). They flirt with a lot of that imagery because they adhere to the racialist perspective that one should embrace one's forebears' original culture and pre-christian religions, which in their case is Nordic, which puts their views on parallel lines with some white supremacists, and the symbolism both groups use is derived from the same sources. It'd help their case some if they didn't associate themselves with actual white supremacists, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I actually agree that people should learn more about the ancient cultures their forebears came from (and they believe that pan-racially, i.e. non-whites should learn and embrace old cultures too, so I believe it's possibly not entirely a supremacy thing with them), but as a jew, some of their associations offend the shit out of me. It's like Boyd Rice -- whip-smart folks, cool records, deeply problematic beliefs. There are likely to be honest-to-goodness neo-nazis in attendance at the concert.

All that said, I defy anyone to write a prettier song than "Giddy Carousel."

15. "Handguns are made for killin', ain't no good for nothin' else"
"So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here

I'm so sure freepers love Lynard Skynard. Not.

On the other hand, they are MY favorite band.

Full lyrics:

Lynard Skynard Saturday Night Special

Saturday Night Special
(Ed King - Ronnie VanZant)
Two feets they come a creepin'
Like a black cat do
And two bodies are lyin' naked
Creeper think he got nothin' to lose
So he creeps into this house, yeah
And unlocks the door
And while a man reaching for his trousers
Shoots him full of .38 holes

(Chorus)
Its a Saturday night special
Got a barrel that's blue and cold
Ain't no good for nothin'
But put a man six feet in a hole

Big Jim's been drinkin' whiskey
And playing poker on a losin' night
Pretty soon, Big Jim starts a thinkin'
Somebody been cheatin' and lyin'
So Big Jim commences to fightin'
I wouldn't tell you no lie
And Big Jim done grab his pistol
Shot his friend right between the eyes

(Chorus)

Hand guns are made for killin'
Ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

50. Maybe it's juxtaposition, like Rush using the Pretenders?
I mean, the song is about a battered woman who burns her husband to death, and Independence Day has an anthem feel for woman to break away from abusive men. I wouldn't think Hannity would like that sentiment.

57. Another of Coe's "underground" songs
Edited on Thu May-27-04 03:24 PM by Tummler
Generally speaking, Coe's two "underground" albums should appeal to freepers who follow the Hannity/O'Reilly dictum that "offending the PC crowd" is a laudable end. Nevertheless, one of Coe's songs may or may not horrify freepers with its "free-thinking" approach:

"Fuck Anita Bryant"

Fuck Anita Bryant, who the hell is she?
Telling all them faggots that they can't be free
Throw that bitch in prison, maybe then she'll see
Just how much them goddamned homosexuals mean to me.

There's much more to the song, but I couldn't find the lyrics online.

Regarding "No Niggers In Our Schools" and "Living Next To Niggers," those sound less like Coe and more like '60s tunes by the white supremacist country/western warbler known as Johnny Rebel. There were dozens of "hits" like that. :puke:

I know way too much about this garbage, mainly due to an article I read years ago in Jim Goad's Answer Me! zine. On edit: this link, "Segregation Hitparade," may be that very article.

I have a couple .mp3s that are labeled as david allan coe, for those two songs, but now that you mention it, the recording quality sounds much more like the 1960s, especially the quality of the country recordings of the time.

I bet they're mislabeled.

Johhny Horton had a couple racist ones, too, I think.

It's greak how they've infiltrated the Secular Music Establishment to broadcast their family friendly messages. It must really upset all those devil worshippers and communists that control Hollywood.

96. It makes one wonder if they know what they're listening to
Pretty much I never listen to lyrics, since for the most part I can't understand them, and I'm generally not very impressed in the times when I do listen to lyrics, so I could end up listening to stuff that, lyrically, opposed to. So I can understand freepers accidentally listening to rage against the machine or some others.

But even though I don't listen to lyrics, I do have some sense of connection to the world, and so tend to know where on the spectrum a band falls to begin with.

Or perhaps this freeper suffers from the same problem I do - it would be nice to have some good Christian rock music to listen to, but only about 0.05% of it is tolerable, musically, to listen to. So if he has good musical taste - and it sounds like he does - probably is forced to go our of the Jesus Crispy musical set to find something interesting.

Who knows?

Or he's an Ayn Rand Libertarian who hates all restrictions on his freedom, whether government, religious, or social, such as asking him to turn down his &@*$%^@ stereo or put a muffler back on his cutlass.

Wouldn't their reaction be similar to the one I have if I listen to a Toby Keith song?
