Anybody know the difference between "thrown" and "placed" olives?

I see it on the olive jars all the time but have never been able to find any information about why some are placed and some are thrown.

Now if she met only condition 1, like say, Ken Lay, we would be able to answer your question.

As for me, I have no idea. In fact, I didn't even know that there was such a thing as "placed" and "thrown" olives. I guess the obvious answer isn't the right one.

PLACE-PACKED
When the Olives, packed in rigid transparent packs, are orderly hand placed and therefore conserve symmetry or adopt geometrical forms.

THROW-PACKED
When the Olives are packed in a non orderly fashion, i.e. machine-packed.
