Am I missing something about the Pixies? |
|
I'm listening to a recording of the first reunion show. It's pretty cool, but I'm not quite understanding why everybody gets all worked up over them. Can somebody explain it to me?

1. I blame it all on the "Doolittle" album |
|
Many of us heard it in record stores when it came out. Passionate, rocking, good hooks, shit to pick up boys and girls by.
I don't think any of their records, earlier or later, was near so good, but others will differ.
I dislike most anything any of them have done since.

3. Helps if you were there... |

Almost 20 years ago, they were astoundingly unique, raw, powerful and original. They influenced an entire generation of musicians that we now take for granted. If Frank Black/Black Francis/Charlie had blown his brains out instead of Kurt Cobain, your perspective might be different.
Sort of like how Prince or The Beatles or Velvet Underground don't sound revolutionary today because so many have knocked off their style and sound over the years since.

I love them, but that's just me.
