I miss the wild west days of Napster! |
|
Man those were the glory days. For a guy with a Mac it was musical paradise!
I'll tell my grandkids "You know, way back in '99, afore the BIG WAR when China took over, you used to be able to get any song, heck I once got a bootleg Laura Brannigan cover of Night Fever for free! Those were the days"

5. Just make sure you really close it |
|
It's one of those programs where you really have to quit, or it will hide itself in the background and eat up your bandwidth...

2. I ended up with a lot of stuff |
|
from Napster that was of questionable quality.
These days I prefer to rip my own MP3s myself.

9. Yeah, I got some poorly ripped MP3's from Napster, too... |
|
Skips, pops, bad EQ that couldn't be corrected...
Still, that's part and parcel of peer-2-peer sharing. Download a shitty file? Delete and try again.
BTW... If you are ripping your own tracks, then you obviously own the song on CD already. The point of Napster (and other P2P resources) is that you don't have to BUY the CD to get the song! :silly:

... I was in college at the time and had collected more music than I could ever listen too. Man, those days kicked ass.

Easy to use, no spyware stuff and a very streamlined client.

also take a look at Poisoned http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20289There's a SoulSeek client for OS X but unfortunately it's for X Windows. I think it's written in Python. I've never tried it.

13. Mp3 is yesterday's news Gotta go with lossless formats |
|
Transferred with bit torrent clients.
Files in .SHN or .FLAC format are compressed, but lose no sound quality in compression. It's a bigger download, but it's worth it.
And all the great bootleg stuff you used to be able to get on Napster or WinMX in their heyday.... It's out there now, the way it was meant to sound
