2. Guess motorcycling isn't a very popular hobby here at DU!
Too bad you sold your R bike. They're great bikes!

3. Here's mine...
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 03:39 PM by snooper2
My first bike...
(Honda CB750 Super Sport) (was sold)

My second bike...
(1999 Honda CBR600 (mine was red) (was stolen-))

My third bike...
(Yamaha Maxim 700) (mine is dark blue-currently own)

Learned about the Stupid CC limit in 1985 to help Harley since 700cc parts are HARD to find for this bike...

http://www.xjowners.com/info/maxim700.html
"Apparently for the 1985 model year the U.S. imposed an embargo on foreign made (maybe Japanese only) motorcycles imported into the U.S. to boost the ailing American Harley Davidson Motorcycle company. This embargo charged heavy tariffs on all imported bikes above 700 cc's.

Yamaha, in an effort to keep sales up and avoid excess taxation, downsized the XJ750 and came up with the XJ700N. It had many of the same features of it's slightly larger cousin but did not exceed the 700 cc limit.

In late 1986, U.S. Courts rules the embargo illegal and cancelled it. This is why the Maxim 700 was only available in 85 and 86. Owners of Maxim 700's now sort of own a piece of U.S. Legal history, and a "limited edition" (so to speak) bike."

4. Other end of the spectrum ... Vespa
I ride two Vespa's a '62 and a '64 fully restored.

Used to be for the fun of it but since gas here just hit $2 a gallon, they have become practical transportation at 125 mpg.

Ride safe.

9. Hahaha
Very true.

Let me ask you this: does a Vespa rider deserve a wave from a guy on a real bike?

11. No offense to any Harley riders, but...
...one thing that drives me crazy is how Harley riders often won't wave to non-Harley riders. I get pissed when anyone doesn't return my wave, but Harley guys seem to be the ones who are least likely to wave at other riders. Don't know why that is.

18. A few years back, I saw a guy on one of those-
on the Eisenhower expressway in Chicago

now that's brave!
(or was it 'stupid'...I always get the two mixed up.)

13. Right on!
I'm a scooterist myself. I ride a modern twist-n-go since I am incredibly mechanically inept. A Honda Metropolitan 4-stroke. It gets 100mpg and I can park anywhere in the city! :-)

14. Very nice Vespa!
I got one of these just this year:

It's a '02 Bajaj Chetak (mine is yellow, however). It's a 4 stroke, but otherwise is based on a Vespa. Bajaj used to make them for India, and based the Chetak on the same design. They also added a heavier suspension, especially in front, to handle India's glorious highway system.

I think I only get about 108 mpg, though. It has a 150cc engine/4 speed manual transmission.

I haven't had this much fun commuting to work since I was 17. :)

6. Hell yeah... BMW's are nice. I was a Triumph guy for the longest
time, now I am into Hondas. I have a 750 Magna 1983... I love it. Or at least I do since I stopped trying to shift on the right side!
Had a Harley... don't want to work on them anymore, just want to ride, so I went Jap.

Chrome won't get your home... my new motto.

There are others here, you would be suprised.

7. Hondas are nice...
My first bike was a Nighthawk 250. Next went to a Yamaha 750. Been on BMWs for about 5 years.

Where do you live, Scooter? Are you an East Coast rider?

12. My husband just bought a running 68 suzuki at an estate sale for
$35.00. If gas prices continue to climb we are going to use the bike to go to the grocery store and out to dinner. He is thinking about riding to work. Apparently this year and model is wildly popular in Australia. Not sure why. I love Vespas too

16. Oh, how I miss my bike
My last bike was an elderly Honda - a 500 I think. I owned a Suzuki 550E before that.

I was going to buy another bike this year, until I hit a moose with my car and had to buy a new car, instead. ;(

17. used too.
But after accident #2, neither one my fault, I just didn't feel safe on them anymore.
When you're in a car accident, you usually end up on all 4 tires, with a bike, you never end up upright on 2 tires.

19. In My Younger Days
Bought a Honda 750 and modifed it....

I don't believe I ever want to travel at more than 160 mph over our Interstate System again....

Too many variables: old ladies on the road, bugs (don't smile), Semi's that can't see you, thieves with a pick-up truck....
