What was the #1 song on the day you were born?
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/cont/choose.html

It's been posted before, but I just heard Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" (I call it my ironical birthday song, but that's another story ) and it made me think of this.

 I don't know what this song is!

(Ticket to Ride by the Beatles was #1 in UK then. That I know!)

Edited to add: I went and found the lyrics to "Game of Love" and I've heard it. Not so clueless after all.

9. Sadly, it was Barry Sadler's execrable "Ballad of the Green Berets."
Thankfully, the R&B charts were cooler. The #1 soul record on the day I was born (March 20, 1966) was Wilson Pickett's "634-5789."

18. Thanks!
I had never hear the Faron Young song (usually not into country, but some stuff I can certainly appreciate), so I had to goggle those lyrics. Good lyrics anyway. :)

So I assume Al Green's was #1 on both the pop and the R&B charts that week.

88. Grazing In The Grass
It sure is mellow grazin' in the grass
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
What a trip just watchin' as the world goes past
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
There are so many good things to see
While grazin' in the grass
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
Flowers with colours for takin'
Everything outta sight in the grass
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
The sun beaming down between the leaves
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
And the bir-ir-ir-irds dartin' in and out of the trees
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)

Everything here is so clear, you can see it
And everything here is so real, you can feel it
And it's real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real
Can you dig it
Whooo-oooh

I can dig it, he can dig it
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
Oh, let's dig it
Can you dig it, baby
I can dig it, he can dig it
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
Oh, let's dig it
Can you dig it, baby

------ Instrumental Interlude ------

The sun beaming down between the leaves
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
And the bir-ir-ir-irds dartin' in and out of the trees
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
Everything here is so clear, you can see it
And everything here is so real, you can feel it
And it's real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real
Can you dig it
Whooo-oooh, yeah
I can dig it, he can dig it
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
Oh, let's dig it
Can you dig it, baby
I can dig it, he can dig it
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
Oh, let's dig it
Can you dig it, baby

I can dig it, he can dig it
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
Oh, let's dig it
Can you dig it, baby

I can dig it, he can dig it
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)

111. "Little Things Mean A Lot "
by Kitty Kallen, don't know the song. And "Sh-Boom" by the Crew-Cuts

Also that same week Sun records signed a young truck driver by the name of "Elvis Presley".

additionally

Bill Haley and the Comets released a song that would become the national anthem of Rock 'n Roll, "Rock Around the Clock". However it did not attain number one status until a year later after it was featured in the movie "Blackboard Jungle"

Peace out ...
