What is your favorite amusement park?
We have a small park near where I live called Holiday World. The place is awesome!! They have free unlimited soft drinks and free sunscreen in their water park; and the best thing is, their staff is GREAT!!!

1. I know I'll get flamed, but...
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 01:10 PM by Coventina
for me it has to be Disneyland.

I'll never forget going there as a child. Seeing the first glimpse of the top of the Matterhorn was, well, magic.

My dad and I went for 4 days back in September of 2001, just after the attacks. We had planned the trip long in advance, so we didn't let fear keep us from going.

It was a magical trip. The park was deserted, and I hadn't been there since I was a kid. It was like every child's dream: Disneyland all to yourself. No lines, ride any ride you want as many times as you want.

If there is ever another major terrorist attack, I'm heading straight for Disneyland.

Go ahead and flame, I'm wearing my aesbestos panties!
:P

Crappy food, though.

No better park in the world. Consistantly has one or more of the best coaster in the world as well. Nice cool climate. Great views of the lake. Not too expensive adn you can ride all day.

28. I've rode roller coasters there since age six
I was tall for my age and rode the coasters as soon as I hit 4'. I fell in love with roller coasters from that moment. I moved away so I haven't been there for a few years. I want to take my husband though, since he's never had that experience.

9. Knoebel's Groves in Elysburg, PA
The place is awesome and out in the middle of nowhere - beautiful part of the state & the park is mostly shade.

Free admission - two world class wooden rollercoasters and lots of fun for the kids.

I can take my family of 5, spend the whole day with lunch & dinner and ride tix, souvenirs etc. for under a hundred bucks.

13. Coney Island, Astroland Park
Its small, so its only for a 2-3 hour day. But, it has the Cyclone, the grandfather of the modern rollercoaster.

For those who haven't ridden the cyclone should travel to Coney Island immediately. It is worth the trip. Its initial 85 foot drop reaches 65mph, very fast for a gravity driven, wooden coaster. Charles Lindbergh remarked that it was scarier than flying his airplane. I consider it to be the bench mark, the standard, by which all other coasters are measured.

In college I was a roller coaster frek, having hit over 150 in two summers. There are faster and rougher coasters. The cyclone remains first in my mind.

The rest of Astroland is fun. freak shows, games, the Wonder Wheel, the usual rides and the beach make for a fun afternoon.

15. the (now defunct) East-Berlin amusement park
It was one of the few chances to have the "real" East Berlin feeling before the park was shut down in 2002. And: entering one of their roller coasters actually took guts.

Other than that: haven't been to a "Big" amusement park in years, but have a few fond childhood memories of Eurodisney and the Europa-Park.

17. Kennywood Park
West Mifflin, PA. Small park but it's over 100 years old and a national landmark. And still, the Jack Rabbit still scares me more than some steel coaster that goes 100 mph and has 15 loops.

If so, I salute you. If not, I salute you still.

27. I go every summer with my mom and my neices and nephews.
Though I was pissed when they stopped doing the "real" factory tours and started that fake "ride" tour of the factory.

FYI, when I was 18 I got pulled over for doing 42 mph in a 35 zone. the cop gave me a warning and a hershey bar.

I still remember many fun Sundays there. I can still taste those French fries served up in a paper cone. I would really have to suck up to my mom though to get her to allow me into that huge wave pool.

Palisades has the rides, Palisades has the fun.

Come on over!

Shows and dancing are free; so's the parking, so gee

Come on over!

Palisades from coast to coast, where a dime buys the most,

Palisades Amusement Park swings all day and after dark!

Ride the 'coaster, get cool in the waves in the pool.

You'll have fun!

So come on over!

On edit: Oy, am I dating myself.

34. It's damn expensive, tho.
It costs like 150 bucks for a family of four. The food is WAAAAAAY overpriced too.

But I remember the last day of 6th Grade, we went on a field trip to Valleyfair. I spent 15 dollars on a meager lunch at one of the concession stands.

It rained really hard the rest of the day. We got all wet. The end.:)

36. It’s hard to choose only one!
I didn't have the chance to go when I was a kid, so I've grown up to be a roller coaster junkie!

Michigan’s Adventure is the closest. Shivering Timbers is one of the best woodies and they have a great water park!

Cedar Point has a lot of awesome coasters, but the lines are way too long. Same at King’s Island. (And we even try to avoid weekends!)

Six Flags needs some better rides, but it’s got the best deal around — the season’s pass is good at any of their parks and costs about what a two day visit would.

Outside the parks are usually a half dozen or so fast food places at least half the price as inside park junk food!
