And now the bad news -- is my daughter a freeper?

In case you didn't see my earlier post, I got a fed-ex today from a daughter I've never known. I was very happy to know my kid did well in life. Daughter is an attorney in a 10-year (so far) lesbian relationship.

I just googled my daughter's name. How about a corporate attorney who has represented clients like Vivendi and Hearst? I'm glad to know my daughter wasn't given to adoptive parents like some I've read about who abuse kids, and had all the opportunities in life I never had and could never have provided.

I'm a liberal. I have friends who are attorneys (even though all I have is an external degree, my two best friends are an attorney and a reference librarian), and I've had (but not currently) friends who are lesbians. My attorney friend, a low-income liberal like me, is self-employed and does a lot of appeals and pro bono work for people who can't pay. But I've never had a friend who was a freeper, and I'm not sure that would be possible--I'm fairly new to DU, and am just now learning how not to froth at the mouth when I spot one. (Okay, for a senior I don't have a very mature attitude.)

I don't want to jump to conclusions. Not all corporate attorneys are freepers any more than all gays are freepers--at least I'm not that stupid. But the very possibility is chilling. And it would be my fault.

1. Don't jump to conclusions. With all that's gone down this year...
relating to gay rights... chances are she's not conservative. I work for a conservative company, and I'm a bleeding-heart liberal. You can't judge a book by its cover. ;)

9. Good thought. Even in a worst case scenario

it really couldn't be ALL my fault.

3. I'd give her the benefit of the doubt
I write for a very conservative industry. I've found precisely two people in the industry who have similar political views to mine. But I still enjoy my job.

And if she does turn out to have conservative views, don't blame yourself -- who knows, her adoptive parents could be just as liberal as you. People often rebel against their families' political beliefs.

4. Don't worry about it.
My boss has a picture of clinton x'd out on his door. My wife works for a right wing fundamentalist media company. We're both moderate to liberal.

6. I Work For a Major Defense Contractor
In Colorado Springs. Surrounded by ditto-head conservatives. I proudly park my truck in the parking lot - its back window is plastered with pro-Dem and anti-Bush stickers.

13. Kudos!

I haven't forgotten when I worked at a military base and was talking to my union shop steward about all the nasty stuff going on all around me, and he walked me outside and showed me the Ku Klux Klan stickers on the pick-up trucks parked in front of the building.

My hat's off to you, CO Liberal.
