Does ANYONE else in the whole world like Mates of State? |
|
You know, that married couple that's put out an LP or two? Organ and drums, sounds positively bubbly happy?
Or am I the only one in the universe, besides the kids on Vivalavinyl's trade board?

Our Constant Concern is probably the best overall, but my favourite release of theirs overall is Team Boo (just for Ha Ha, easily my favorite Mates of State song ever).

They really are a great band. I know a handful of people who really love them. They remind me of an ultra poppy Yo La Tengo or something similar.

4. I fucking LOVE Yo La Tengo to death. |
|
Along with Mogwai, Interpol, Thursday, Bad Religion, and The Orb, they're on my "Bands to see before I die" list.
Seems like nobody's heard of them unless they're REALLY into Matador or eccentric jam.

I've been on a huge YLT kick lately, somehow I missed picking up Fakebook until last week and it hasn't left my player since. I can't get that album out of my head. Also a huge fan of Mogwai and Interpol, new Interpol coming out later this year!!!
I'd also highly reccomend a couple bands you'd probably like, Bettie Serveert and Rilo Kiley. Both amazing and would probably be right up your alley (if you havn't heard 'em yet!)

6. I haven't heard either Bettie Serveert or Rilo Kiley. |

I'll be sure to set myself up upon returning to school, though -- anything in the vein of YLT is probably pretty fucking good, oi.
Thank you for the recommendation!

Bettie Serveert is an oldschool dutch indie band, but they sing in english and are just really great, very endearing much like YLT. I'd probably start with their album "Palomine", although all of them are great.
Rilo Kiley is much newer, they only have a couple albums and only one real masterpiece, "The Execution of All Things". They are fronted by Jenny Lewis who also sings backup for the Postal Service. Its kinda alt-countryish and reeeeaaly good.
anyway check 'em out! :toast:

8. OH! I know Rilo Kiley. |
|
I couldn't match the name to anything, but I know who Jenny Lewis is. I haven't heard any of their stuff, though.
Thank you very much for the recommendations. Hell yeah, dude.
