Women or guys....... tall or short guys? Which is it? |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 02:21 PM by Teddy_Salad
I was having a conversation with a woman friend of mine and I said that women or guys for that matter, always prefer taller guys than shorter ones.
I'm a tad on the shorter side myself and have always wished I was just an inch or two taller, is that too much to ask?
Anyway...she says my assumption that women prefer height in their men is total crap.
Who's right? She or me?

I'm 5'2". My husband is 6'3". But I've dated/been attracted to short guys, tall guys, in-between guys.
I think many women prefer men to be taller than they are (I don't really have much of a choice on that front), but that they "always" prefer tall men is a stretch.

It doesn't matter. I dated men in the past over 6 feet, but I married a man who is 5' 8&1/2". I'm 5'5". Height has nothing to do with why I'm with him, the good things, or the bad things. It's just a physical characteristic.

20. Of course you're wrong |
|
Not totally wrong from a few of the answers I see, but I believe that height doesn't matter to the majority of women. Yes, I want a man who's at least an inch or two taller than me, but I wouldn't rule out a sexy, intelligent man over his height. Jon Stewart is VERY short, and no way in hell would I kick that guy out of bed :D
As for tall guys, I was married to a man who was 6'4 to my 5'3. Perhaps some women want to feel all dainty and petite next to their guy, but that's just not for me. Besides, if you're both pretty close to each other in height, it can open up a whole new world of possiblities that just wouldn't work otherwise. And NO, I will NOT elaborate here, in the interest of keeping Teddy's thread lock free

men. Maybe it is the novelty of it. Tall guys are a dime a dozen in my clan. Short is exotic and exotic is sexy! Short and strong is VERY sexy. And a shorter man who is not threatened by my height is confident in himself and that is sexy too. (Shorter men who are threatened by my height are probably gonna have trouble and find out why some call me Attila the Blonde.)
I don't need a man to reach the top shelf in the kitchen for me, but endurance is good. Tall does not necessarily equal strong and enduring.

Also, as a BBW (big beautiful woman) who is 5'10", I attract short, SKINNY guys. I have dated guys who are 5'6" and above, but if they are also 120# soaking wet, I'm sorry, that's just not attractive to me! I'm afraid I would break them! Short, muscular or large-framed guys are great though, as well as taller guys. Although my extensive research seems to bear out that those thin guys are um... well, let's not get the thread locked, but let's just say they are not short and/or thin ALL over!

|
In junior high, I was attracted to taller guys my age or a year older but I think that was more because they went through puberty. In high school and early college, I preferred guys 5'9''-6'0''. I thought that anything taller than that was too tall. I didn't really like guys who towered over me. In fact, I told a group of friends that, one week before I started dating my husband who is and was 6'4''. Oh well. I'm 5'5''.

I've dated both small guys - even some smaller than I am, and I'm 5'2" - and big fellows. My husband's 6'2". But height matters less to me than build and an evil gleam in the eyes. What I notice first is strong forearms. Seriously, it's almost a fetish.
We've been culturally conditioned to breed for sexual dimorphism. But I have known quite short guys who fetishized extremely tall women, so it works both ways.

We're the same when I wear heels and I used to feel like an amazon women half the time anyway since I was once chubbier, but when it gets pointed out to me, I still feel all weird. I think you're on to something with the male insecurity thing. Actually, I don't let it bother me so much now because at least I weigh over 20 pounds less than he does now, so I'm wearing heels again sometimes. :D

68. Women prefer taller guys |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 10:03 PM by AngryAmish
I am shorter than average (5.8). The last 4 serious girlfriends I have had were 1 inch either side of me. I also dated a 5.0 girl for a long time.
Girls like a bigger guy. Every women likes to be protected, or at least feel that way.
Average height for women is around 5.4 to 5.6. There are not many 5.4 girls willing to date a guy shorter than them.
Edited to sat this: This is my giant insight into women. That is probably why I am not married.

69. Given that my husband is 6'6"... |
|
I guess I'd better say I prefer tall!
I can say I prefer men at least as tall I am, and I am 5'10" in most of my heels.

71. Why is it all the tall guys go for the really short girls? |
|
I'm 5'10" and have dated guys anywhere from 5'6" to 6'9". However, most have been around my height, 5'9" - 6'. However, I have always noticed the taller the guy, the shorter their wife/girlfriend. What is up with that?!? You short women can date ANY guy without having to make sure the guy is not 'boob height', but end up with guys so tall for you that you have permanent neck problems just looking up at the guy.
Now, as a bisexual, the women I have dated have tended to be short. Don't ask me why, but I seem to attract women who are 5'2" to 5'4". I dated ONE woman who was 5'7", and have never found another woman my height that was interested in me. Can you lesbians explain this please? What's up with that? Seems like a reverse of the tall guy/short woman thing!

Here I thought it was just because I am 5'5" that I don't attract women. Now I see that many women claim that it really doesn't matter. I guess I should come to new realizations. I have character, personality and other qualities women say they look for...I guess I should come to terms with my looks.:silly: Ehhh fckit...I'm OK.

74. Never mattered to me. |

I'm 5'9", but I've dated guys who were not as tall as me. My high school boyfriend was the hometown basketball star - he was about 6'4", but I also went out with a guy who was 5'6". He was a wonderful guy, and I enjoyed my time with him far more.
My husband is 6'3", but what attracted me to him certainly wasn't his height. I am definitely attracted to a certain "type" of guy, personality-wise, and there are a few physical features I seem to be drawn to (dark hair, brown, hazel or green eyes), but height is not one of them.
