I'm a Canadian...and I vote! |
|
Just a bit of a smugness post...I voted today, and it's good to flex the ol' democracy muscle every few years!

When I was a kid I was envious of those cool lever machines you guys use in the US, but now I think it's kinda cool to particiate in a system which dasn't changed significantly in a couple of hundred years...

8. advance poll on Saturday ... |
|
In the basement of the local library branch. Three Elections Canada volunteers -- a retired guy (deputy returning officer), his wife with the stack of ballots, and a high school student with the voter's list. They said the turnout was pretty high so far (especially for a summer election).
There was a cardboard privacy screen, a wooden pencil, and a cardboard ballot box to put the paper ballot into when you were done.
Perhaps this was all symbolic -- a reminder that as long as we have forest products (and senior citizen volunteers), our democracy will be strong?
