And I haven't accomplished anything. I haven't been to Europe to visit my Swiss homeland. I haven't been to Italy to see the architecture. I haven't been married. I don't have any children. I always thought that I'd have three kids by now, have a house in the suburbs and a pool. But I'm still not out of college(I graduate in December), I'm scared of getting a job after college(what if there's no jobs?), and will I even be ABLE to have children?
What did you accomplish by the time you were 25, and was it what you thought it would be? I need you to cheer me up. God, I hate my birthday. It always sucks! Duckie

It sounds like you have accomplished a great many things so far. Graduating in December is a foundation for the rest of Your life - you have plenty of time for the domestic side of things.....you gotta be patient! :hi:
Congrats on your many successes so far.

and I'm an absolute loser. I've spent 20 years in my career, and I'm still struggling. I've watched lesser talents move quickly to the top. I can't figure it out. It gets harder everyday to drag myself out of the bed.

however, the ride from 25 on is a pleasant and gentle glide slowly downhill.
As long as you realize that you as an individual cannot change the world, you'll be fine.
Oh, and just about everything your parents ever told you is a lie.

5. Don't get too down in the dumps |

Material success comes to some more quickly than it does to others.
And as far as children go, barring something unforeseen, you should be fertile well into your forties, so, no need to rush.
As for myself, when I was 25 I was in much the same situation as you. I had just barely gotten my Bachelor's, but once I got it, there were no jobs to be had. I was unmarried, no children, and awfully frustrated about life in general.

6. I remember that. My 25th BD was my worst. |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 12:42 PM by XNASA
Suddenly, I was closer to 30, than to 19. I was negatively affected by my 25th.
Besides 30 wasn't bad at all. I turned 30, became a father and bought my first house, all with 3 months.
On the plus side........I was silly to worry about it, my 25th that is. And honestly, the best BD I've ever had was my 40th.

I drank a lot. Did too many of drugs. No degree. No wife. Shit job.
Now by 35? Woo boy, that's a whole nother story.
So buck up, things can change, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly...

Happy Birthday YRD! :bounce:
I'm 23, no degree, left school to get married and have my daughter, been to Europe, so about the total opposite. I'm sad and disappointed that I had to leave school, but the other things are good.
Europe is still there, and there is plenty of time left for you to do the other things you mentioned. Heck, the time between meeting my husband and being married and having our daughter was only about 14 months, and something I would never have predicted! Sometimes good things just happen!! I will send lots of *good things vibes* your way! Congrats on graduating, and may a wonderful job and partner fall right into your lap!

I'm 25 too and feel the same way sometimes... I'm just happy to be on my own and basically self-sufficient. I wanted more at this age, but when I think about it, I'm doing a lot of things I didn't think I'd get to do. Some people just have huge expectations for their post-college years, but you just have to go out there and start living without worrying about all those milestones and lists people come up with of things you just have to do by a certain age. You end up accomplishing and experiencing more than you expect.
What kind of job are you hoping to get?

It only gets better! Honest. :toast:

I'm married. I have a job that I am getting by with. I don't have children. We don't own a house yet. I want these things. It isn't just my parent's expectations. My husband need to get his stuff together (unemployed and trying to start a small business, but a bit depressed). My big goal for 25 when I graduated from college at 22 was getting my driver's license which I didn't have yet. I got my license a month before I turned 24.

It's NEVER what you think it will be. It will always be less or more than that... and each experience will bring you farther in life... success is a subjective thing... happiness is easier to recognize.
:)
And 25 is still really young in the scheme of things. Cheer up!

Please don't get down on yourself. I hate it when people say this to me, but please benefit from my experience. I remember when I was in my early 20's, all I could think about was getting married, family, house, you know the drill. I married my college sweetheart at 23, then proceeded to put my life on hold for him after I graduated. He left me four years later for a younger carbon copy of me. Be happy with what you have (I should have done that), and celebrate your ass off!
BTW, I am now 34, married to a man eight years younger than me who is twice as mature as my first husband, and we have a beautiful two-year-old daughter. We hope to be in a house when he gets back from his military training. I guess my point is, you have a lot of time to attain your goals! Boy, I am starting to sound like my father, eerie!

22. But on the otherhand... |
|
I'm 50...I'd say things can go into the toilet for real...regardless of what you think you've accomplished if your life includes dreams of tomorrow it is looking good!
but at 25
I had been a fast food manager, a soldier (boy learning how to kill people is an accomplishment),
I had a BS, I had a wife, I had two living children and one dead child,
I had owned a house and four, well, actually 2 trucks and 2 cars, the pool was more work than it was worth,
I hadn't been to see my colonial or european heritage...but I did get that done by age 50
I had no clue what a job might be, but I dreamed of doing science (and ultimately I did get to, even to do international collaborations in the arctic with scientists from 4 other countries.)
So, by way of cheering you up...don't get in a rush, there is a lot of life left to be lived (though some of it won't be good, most of it will).

Ahhhhhhh, don't be in such a rush. Enjoy the journey, because once the road is travelled, it cannot be recaptured. Take your time. When I was 25, I had a degree and a profession, but on the flip side, I was a real shit of a person, even more arrogant and difficult than I am now. Have some fun today, treat your self to something that you rarely do, but really enjoy. Take yourself out for the evening. :toast:

Don't feel down. I do not have a college degree of any sort, been working my tail off since I graduated HS and had my daughter at 21, been a single mom for almost 7 years, but will be getting married (finally found a great man!) in July and I will be 29 in December. To me, it looks like you have made some wise decision in your journey in life so far and have goals to reach for. You will get that great job after school and you will meet that special someone and have wonderful children and Europe will always be there, waiting for you to visit!

25. To live to 25-You have accomplished so much already |
|
With the way the world is now getting to 25 is a feat in itself. Look at all our young troops who have been killed.
Life is what you make of it and sholdn't be judged by what you do or don't accomplish. To me, you are succeding because you are in school working towards your future, you've been to Swiss, and I'm sure there are a lot of other positive things you can list to prove that your life has some value.
Don't get so done on yourself. You have worth and you are special. Live for the day and don't look back. Be proud of who you are and the things you have done.

Although I have accomplished a few things 25 was a major blow to my young, independant lifestyle. I mean, doesn't that mean you are an adult now?
It took me a week or so, but I'm feeling much better now!!

to be worried about what you have or haven't accomplished.
You're a work in progress. And guess what.... you will be until the day you die.
Having goals is nice, but jeez, not if it means you're going to consider yourself a failure if you end up going a different road.
Enjoy all that you've learned in 25 years, and celebrate all that you hope for in the next 25... and more.
Happy Birthday!
