Joy to the World... 3 Dog Night? |
|
Well, they leased their mindless song out to Masterbate... Oops, Mastercard.
I see a lot of adverts for credit cards, though more these days using such "joy to the world" lyrics which equates using the card to buying trinkets as acquiring happiness in the process.
Especially aimed at college kids, to entrap them...
Why am I having a problem with this?

2. Artists often don't own the rights to their signature tunes |
|
it could just as easily have been done by some sleazy, greedy "artists' rep" outfit.

was written by Hoyt Axton, Three Dog recorded and had a hit with it. I'm sure Hoyt's survivors still control the rights.
Three Dog Night's other signature tune, "Mama Told Me Not To Come" written by Randy Newman...

4. You're having a problem with this because... |
|
...it's the closest Three Dog Night ever came to succeeding in their pathetic five-year quest to become known as a blue-eyed soul band.
"Joy To The World" I find listenable. Everything else Three Dog Night ever recorded reminds me of fingernails against a chalkboard! :hurts:

5. I am not making this up... |

I swear when I was a kid I saw Three Dog Night on the Red Skelton TV Show around 1969-70 and they did "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"! Probably during their "heavy" phase...remember "One Man Band"?
I'd put them closer to bubblegum than blue-eyed soul...Remember "The Rapper" by The Jaggerz? That was a HUGE hit in my high school and it came out about the same time as "Celebrate" and "Mama Told Me Not to Come"...and sounded like it could have been done by Three Dog Night!
Other big hits around this time were "Venus" by the Shocking Blue, "Ma Belle Ami" by the Tee Set, "Love Grows" by the Edison Lighthouse, "Hitchin' A Ride" by Vanity Fair, and "Gimme Dat Ding" by the Pipkins...but that's neither here nor there..."Hurdy Gurdy Man" by Donovan was also popular...
Even the Osmonds tried to go "heavy" with their rip-off of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" called "Treat Her Like a Lady" or something like that...! Interesting times in top 40 music, to say the least...

7. Five years ago, I briefly dated a 29-year-old daughter of flower children. |
|
She told me that while growing up, her mom and dad listened to lots of different music, including "R&B, like Santana, Three Dog Night, and the early Rolling Stones."
Now you know why I only dated the woman briefly!:nuke:

8. OK, I do find "Shambala" preferable to almost anything else of theirs. |
