Poll question: The great hot dog debate! |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 10:19 PM by JonathanChance
Well, our PBS affiliate is airing A Hot Dog Program. Now we have the great debate. Who makes the better dog?
I vote Chicago! Real man's hot dog! With all the fixings!

If I want a salad, I'll get a salad. I don't like salads on my dog. If I want a hot dog, I'll go to Gray's Papaya.

Why aren't you saying anything about Brats with "Secret Sauce" at Miller Park?
:P
As far as ketchup on a hot dog, I don't care, but I dare anyone to go inside the loop in Chicago and say that....they'll call you a heretic and throw you under the L.

I've read this controversy before in other forums. What's the big deal with "KETCHUP" (or catsup), on hot dogs? I never have... never will, eat a hot dog without ketchup. Is it a regional thing?
I'm born and raised Boston Irish, where ketchup, salt, pepper and boiling water are considered spices.

Who else would want to compare their product with those horrible things they sell to starving, captive audiences at ball games?
But those probably ARE those horrible things they sell to starving, captive audiences at ball games.

Even I, a staunch veg, cannot begin to eat a veggie dog. They are worse than awful. Awfuler.

17. Bar-S are those cheap-ass Winn Dixie "store brand" |
|
things that pass for weiners (and food). I'd rather eat a Cockroach.

18. In store brand hot dogs, you probably ARE |

...eating cockroaches :puke:
If the Kosher rabbis want to inspect hot dog facilities, that's a little more reassuring as to the content.

23. Oh yeah...Sonoran dogs take the game... |
|
to a whole new level. The bun is steamed which makes it soft and slightly chewy. Wrapped in bacon and smothered in onions, tomatillo sauce, salsa, mustard and mayo- it becomes a work of art. Each street vendor has his own unique style. The best I have had was in Todo Santos in the Baja just north of Cabo. Here in Tucson on the south side of town is BK's stand which is very good. Viva Mexico!!!

Dogs from "Rutt's Hut" in northern NJ, "The Windmill" in Long Branch, NJ, and "The Original Hot Dog Shop" in Pittsburgh. Okay, one more, a sentimental favorite, "Old Heidelberg Bar" in Keansburg, NJ, because I've been going there for about 45 years and the dogs are still great. (But not any more, since I'm no longer eating meat. I do miss dogs, and I don't like tofu dogs.)

And if those two aren't enough for ya, try Wieners Circle.
New York...hah! Chicago's dogs can beat those up any day of the week, twice on Saturday.

Humboldt Park! Problem is you just can't get a good hot dog around here. Just Elotes...
Humboldt is slowly turning into Lincoln Park, I must confess. Gonna have to move soon if this keeps up. Getting awfully blond and giggly around here.

Not necessariy the Chicago style, but I am partial to Vienna Kosher because I grew up with it.
I had to stop at Mustard's Last Stand during Passover because I was unable to resist.
At home, I only go to either D's Super Dog or Yovi's, the only Vienna vendors I know of in the city.
