He gets shitbags like Kissinger and Karen Hughes and Ed Gillespie on there, and he seems to be handcuffed from really going for the throat. I guess that's the "host's" job...

Did you catch: "I'm gonna name 4 things: 1.) Developing weapons of mass destruction; 2.) Harboring terrorists; 3.) Inflammatory rhetoric against the United States; and 4.) Oppression of their own people. Now here's the problem. You can't tell me what country I just named."
Stewart OWNED that guy.

after the initial hook - what kinda political fishin is that? Right - guess he has to keep the doors open to controversial guests for added ratings... I really do understand the tv thing, but he totally let several comments go.

17. The bottom line, to me, though |
|
is that Stewart won the debate *hands down.* Furthermore, he won it while remaining composed, coherent, and reasonable-sounding. And THAT takes talent.... I know if it were me up there I'd be either a) trying to say 5 things at once because that's how many arguments there are against what this guy's saying or b) yelling something along the lines of "are you listening to yourself? do you really believe the crap you're telling me?" ... and that approach doesn't persuade people.

which doesn't happen often. "The issue is credibility". This guy discarded Stewart's mentioning of Iran using WMD during the Iraq-Iran War. Stewart is now discarding a "book like this" which draws parallels which exist with many other countries but we're at war with Iraq.

I'm sure his book'll have a "mass-purchase" dagger by it in the NY Times best-seller list--if it even makes the list, that is. The jacket was so cheap, it looked as if he printed it himself.

Jon has taken a second rate cable show and turned into one of the most important political shows on the air. So important that the GOP finaly realized they had to get off their asses and try to get their message out via that show -- why do you think we have seen a parade of RWers on the show after YEARS of not seeing a one?
It is THE show to watch, THE show to be on. He has made it into a political power house and USES that power in every segment on politics he does. Good god, that entire opening segment was about showing the world that the VP of our cuntry is a fucking liar. THAT is Jon Stewart using his power.

24. I think it was the best how he's done! |
|
I have never seen him rip a guest right to their face the way he did this asshole! Told him he thought the book was a pile of shit -- just in nicer terms.
Jon is a comedian. He is on Comedy Central. His show can do what it does BECAUSE of he way he handles himself. If he were an in-your-face pitbull, screaming "Lair!" we wouldn't be seeing the show. I have never, EVER doubted how Jon felt about a book or guest just because of the manner in which he handles his interviews. He always telegraphs to the audience is he thinks it's bullshit.

and twice as effective for being nice about it. He is "Everyman" - I can see so many people relating to and liking him all the while he DEMOLISHED that guy.
Okay - imagine for one sec that you supported the Iraq War and Bush, but are kinda having some doubts. Much as we all relish when Dems fight back, Stewart's is the approach that will win over the doubters and the ones who haven't paid much attention.

of the freeper variety. I'm talking about the apolitical, or the ones that supported the War and Bush but had doubts or now have doubts. Young people by the droves watch it - there was actually a poll that said a huge group of them actually get their NEWS from it.
And they tune in because it's funny and BECAUSE it isn't an interrupting yelling match which is what all the other damn news show are. The show and Stewart don't have an obvious agenda which makes it all the more powerful.

The political comedian Lenny Bruce lost his audience and his power to influence when he STOPPED being funny. I have no doubt that the minute Jon stopped being funny, he would lose a good chunk of his audience and the chance to influence those folks.
I thank the gods for Jon. He and his crew have almost single-handedly fought back the RW media tide. His coverage in the lead-up to the invasion was steller.

|
fact: it is on Comedy Central and a large number of viewers are college students. Opinion: The show is mostly funny but aquiescing to persnickety guests vis-a-vis super subtle off-sides is wearing thin. A lot of the banter is lost on less-informed viewers - if they truly get their news from jon, they are most likely not informed enough to play.

Oh, tonight's shows a keeper. The way he juxtoposed those videoclips of Cheney to reveal a flat-out lie was brilliant. As for the guest, it's not often you see some of these idiots sweat on television as seen at the end of the first round when the would-be hussein/bin ladin connector wiped the palm of his hand on his knee...
And saying things like "I'm not pacifist and I'm no partisan, but this thing strikes me as a big clusterfuck." perhaps will get him listened to by both sides. Which is seems rare on tv these days.
