The clock on my computer runs slow. |
|
Every 2-3 days or so I have to update the time about 5 minutes. Has this ever happened to anyone else, or is my puter AFU? What can be done to fix this?

2. Most likely your motherboard battery is going bad. |
|
Easy (and cheap!) to replace.

8. That may hide the symptoms but |
|
it won't cure the problem.
The mobo battery is dying. It's no more than a flat, silver battery in a plastic holder. It can be at about any spot on the board, but it's easy to see. Just pop it out (making sure the computer is off and UNPLUGGED), and take it to Radio Shack or any other tech-savvy place and have them give you a new one (about five bucks or so).
The battery is necessary to normal functioning of the computer. Without it working correctly all sorts of stuff will eventually happen.

9. The battery might need to be changed |
|
but most computers are preatty poor time keepers. I'm a watch and time accuracy nut. I've been running this program in my computers for 10 years now, never had a complaint with it.

11. The correct time is not the issue |
|
Your battery is necessary to your computer's BIOS. A failing battery can cause your computer to lose information and BIOS settings, among other things. Here's a good FAQ to read: http://www.resource800.com/ibmfaq.html
