1. Turned it off halfway through |
|
couldn't bear it. the animation style was making me seasick, and the dialog was just like a late-night drug-fueled discussion of philosophy in college.

It was precisely that. The college philosophy discussion once the professor and graduate students have left the building. Late night dorm talk, half-informed. I felt like Jerry Seinfeld, insulted as a comedian. I wasn't insulted that they were trying to do philosophy. I was insulted that they were doing it so poorly!

6. That was high school, man. |

Listening to kids drone on about philosophy and thinking, "These people don't know what the fuck they're talking about." Silently, of course. It was fun to hear them spout off snippets of Nietsche and Sartre and silently laugh about how little they actually knew.

2. I don't mind pretentious usually (I practice it!), but this was a steaming |

pile.
Oh, the fucking angst! Oh, the fucking angst!
Juvenile and preposterous.

SOOOO many fucking art rats and assorted punks told me how absolutely brilliant this movie was. I hated every goddamn minute of it. It got to the point where when someone would ask "Have you seen 'Waking Life'?" I'd say "Fuck you!"
That usually threw them for a loop.
No offense to you, TD. That movie just makes me pissed. x(

When it was over, I heard the pseudos just gushing about it. meanwhile, I felt like someone should have approached the director with a sidearm and been like: "Put down the Sartre nice and slow-like, and nobody gets hurt, see?" Terrible.

8. It's sad, because Linklater actually makes good movies. |
|
I love "Dazed & Confused" and parts of "Slackers" and "School of Rock" was enjoyable for what it was, but this was just wretched.
