whats the big deal about F911 censorship? |
|
what could they possibly be afraid of, truth?
they say we would do the same thing, but agnostics and athiests didnt get all up in arms when 'passion' came out... seriously, when has the left ever advocated censorship of ideas?
like hell we would do the same thing...
dubya called moore (actuial quote) "a slimeball", way to unite george... thats a great way to reach out to the left.

1. That was Dubya' daddy who said slimeball, btw. |
|
They smear because they fear.
The good news is there's no censorship here after all; the film is going to open on an unheard-of number of screens for a docu.

2. The funniest part is the Goebbels/Reiffenstahl comparisons... |
|
Completely ignoring the fact that what those two did and their life's work was done to further the image of and prop up the purpose of people in power.
Last I checked Moore (liberal) was actively doing work that CHALLENGED the people in power (conservatives).

I thought so.

The movie is a great success and is playing all over. Save us from your private delusions.

5. I think he was talking about their attempted censorship..... |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 03:10 PM by vi5
...just poorly phrased. He meant why are they trying to censor it (which they are...just failing miserably).
No need to jump all over the guy. There was nothing delusional about his post.
On edit: as much as I hope it will be, you can't really call a movie that hasn't officially opened wide yet a "success". I'm sure it will be but it's a little premature.

6. Frankly, there is no censorship for "F911"... |
|
Michael has garnered an unprecedented amount of media coverage for this film. I'm guessing it will swiftly become the most profitable documentary in cinema history. By a very large margin. That's not to say that foes of Moore aren't railing against it---indeed they are. But the dimensions of the conservative onslaught against Moore only prove how much they fear his ability to influence people.
This ain't another pamphlet from Chomsky. This is the most ultra-hyped documentary in history. Moore has played this situation like a goddamn Stradivarius. And more power to him.
My point is, let's talk about censorship when it's actually occuring. To invoke the charge when it's not warranted is to cheapen the charge when it IS.

7. they sure as hell tried... and to some degree got it |
|
groups are preassuring theaters to not show it, and in some cases getting it taken off of some screens or taken out of some theaters all together. in most cases in the more conservative areas, where people need to see it the most.
the R raiting i think isnt viable... probably for language, im guessing, but how likley is there to be any nudity in this movie? not very... so i dont think this movie is fitting of an R raiting, depending on the extent of the language, and there might possibly be some 'disturbing footage' from iraq or whatnot, but nothing worse than is on the 6:00 news most likley.

9. I understand your point.... |

...But I also happen to be keyed into a lot of liberal Hollywood folks, and I haven't heard from them that Mike's film is being "banned. " Yes, there's pressure against it. But it's getting a wide release. Like I said, it's going to make more money than any previous doc.
Okay, the R-rating is bullshit. I'll give you that . It's beyond bullshit---it's flat-out absurd. But I happen to know a great deal about the MPAA, and I can say that, as fucked-up and hypocriical as this organization is, they aren't Bush toadies. The insanity of the ratings board goes so much deeper than the Bush Admin.
