Help countering a critic of F-9/11? |
|
A friend of mine says it is "only Moore's point of view."
Have any of you ever seen a documentary that does not present the filmmakers point of view? I don't think documentaries are supposed to be objective. If you have ever seen an objective documentary, can you give me an example?
He says things were taken out of context.
Out of context of what?
He says it is propaganda. How does it fit the definition of propaganda?
I saw the film last night and thought it was great. But I would like some help in countering what this guy is saying, beyond what I have just said.
Thanks
Muriel

1. Has your "friend" seen the film? |
|
If not, I'd politely suggest that he only speaks of things in your presence of which he has first hand knowledge or at least an opinion that was reached without the assistance of the AM radio bloviators.

And what you just stated is as opinion which up to this point is uninformed. Thats the very definition of a prejudice. You are prejudging a movie you have never seen, and are trying to pass an opinion which you can't support without reffering to someone telling you what they want you to think about this movie.
Bah, I'm too tired to think all logical like. Besides logic never works on these people....
Honestly I find a quid-pro-quo arrangement works the best- offer to read any Ann Coulter (or whatever they suggest) in exchange for viewing the movie. Offer to pay for them.
Or if that doesn't work, You can try to call them out for being afraid to have their ideas challenged.

4. A documentary's purpose is to inform and persuade |
|
M Moore makes no bones about it - this is his opinion, but it is based upon good solid research and fact.
There is a difference between informed opinion and uniformed opinion. . .a difference which your friend wishes to erase.
Your friend has not seen the movie. . .volunteer to take him/her. Then his/her opinion may be more informed.

If he didn't, tell him: "get back to me when you have an informed opinion. Otherwise it's just hyperbole."
