E-mail to me from stranger... |
|
So I check my e-mail and this is what's waiting:
---- Hello, I happened to wander onto the DU website and found the link to your website. I will pray 15 decades of the Rosary for your conversion. ----
Um. Okay.

they won't pray 15 decades. They'll pray about 3 days and give up, so you'll be fine by Friday.

I was worried about some funkadelic prayer karma wearing me down until I'm 155. Glad that's over with.

9. A Decade is Ten Rosary Beads - Not Ten Years |
|
Praying a decade means saying the prayer on each of ten beads. Fifteen decades X ten beads = 150 prayers. That should take a couple of hours.

I'm not a Catholic (although my wife is), and I was wondering as I wrote that post if there was some kind of translation of time involved. I had no idea about that stuff - at least now I know the answer!!

4. It's even ruder than that |
|
They didn't offer shit. They said they WILL pray for him. He has no choice to accept or decline their prayers. They are going to indirectly violating him for as long as they keep it in their mind to do so. It's almost as bad as telling someone who doesn't like you that you are going to spend hours thinking about them.
It sounds like some sort of strange, unrequited, spiritual crush. Metaphysical stalking, if you will.
If they wanted to pray for him, they could have just done it. By declaring that they are offering unending prayers on his behalf, I would see that as nothing less than a passive-agressive threat.
I am Christian, by the way.

5. It's a twisted bit of self-righteous spiritual one-upsmanship... |
|
The person who e-mailed you is taking a "dominant" position by offering to pray for you, the "sub-dominant" one who is in need of Godly help.
It's a lousy, self-righteous, uncaring gesture, designed only to make *them* feel good, not you.
Sorry that you received this.

8. A lady in our local paper wrote a really sensitive and |
|
thoughtful column about why she supports gay marriage and gay rights.
She wrote it from a Christian perspective, too.
She got several anomymous hate mails, and her response was that she could not understand how anyone could take the time to compose something and not be willing to take credit for it, sign their name, claim it as their own.
When several others told her they were praying for her, she said she appreciated it. She said that like everyone else, she could use all the prayer help she could get.
She disarmed them with her kindness, and it was really neat. Maybe thanking them would leave them speechless. It might be worth a try.

6. As a Catholic I'm pretty embarassed by that dope |
|
Tell you what. I'll pray on my rosary that the person who sent you that email get off their asses and help feed the poor, You know actually do something that is Christian other than wandering around a web site just to look for people they can go after..
