Anybody have a baby bike trailer??? |
|
or is it a bike baby trailer?
One of those trailers that you put on your bike to ride around with the kid in the back.
They look so cool, and it might be just the thing to get me riding again. Still, they're pricey for a good one, and somehow they seem dangerous. Any thoughts anyone? I'm looking at the Burley d'Lite right now, but at $400, it'll be a while before I actually get one.

2. A friend of mine had a Burley |
|
her "baby" is now 8 years old so...... But she absolutely loved it. She rode all over town & would pack the groceries around Zachary after shopping, etc. It held up very well and even worked well in the winds of Laramie, WY where 30 mph is not unusual. She also had some fears, in the beginning, that they might not be stable enough. But she talked with the bike shop guys who assured her they were & after riding it a few times, those fears totally evaporated. She never had any trouble with it. I do remember that she decided to buy the burley because, although it was more expensive, she believed it was safer. And, if I recall correctly, she sold it after about 3 years for more than 1/2 what she paid for it so she felt she had definitely gotten her money's worth out of it.

3. I have a much cheaper one |
|
We paid around $100 for ours. It's probably a good thing I've never seen the $400 model or I'd want it.
Nevertheless, I love having the trailer. My daughter enjoys it too. It folds down to a flat square, about 2' x 2', which is perfect for the trunk of the car.
And no, I can't remember the brand name of it. When I get home from work I can look, if you're interested.

4. We have one - paid about $100 or so... |
|
We can take both of the boys - although my 5 year old is now hitting the top end of the weight and height limit. (Good thing he is learning to ride his bike, huh?).
We really are getting our money's worth from it - I would recommend getting a sturdy one - it gets pretty banged around from a chuckhole perspective (if you live in pot hole country, that is).

5. They're pretty cool... |

And after baby's grown, you can haul a keg in the trailer. Not kidding, I know some mountain biker guys that use one to haul beer for beach parties in Marin!!!

6. Right, ride around on a bike in traffic so the kid can get a snoot full |
|
of smog and fumes.
Just think carefully about where you're GOING before you put the kid in that thing! Never made sense to me to go out and get that exercize in the SMOG.

I worked at Burley, which being a cooperative, means I was a partner at Burley. You would have to see the testing and engineering that goes into these to believe it. They are made with the best available materials in Eugene, OR by the most motivated workforce I've ever had the pleasure of associating with. The knock-off imports are a lot cheaper and that is reflected in their resale value. Good luck on what you decide but remember "you get what you pay for"

It's great to know what a great company it is.
Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm definitely gonna have to save up and get one, and I'll be a Burley. (plus they look the coolest!)
Now if I'd just stop wasting my money on other crap...
