9. Well it's not like the original... |
|
...even though it is a remake it is more like Resident Evil now, there won't be hundreds of demons coming after you in this game. It adds tension when you have to watch your ammo.
BTW, what demo are you talking about? The only one I remember was the leaked alpha E3 demo, which is not a representation of the final game, it just shows off the engine.

2. Hard call as both have very different playing styles |
|
Doom has always been about high body counts whereas Half-life was equal parts sneaking and killing.
I don't think I can pick between the two.

I fucking hate Steam and the fact that you have to use it if you are using Halflife.
I'll probably download both but I will enjoy halflife 2 better.
If it wasnt for Steam I would buy HL2 and play online.

5. Okay let me try to explain... |
|
Before to play halflife or any of its mods online you would have to patch up your game to whatever it needed for the server it was playing on.
And you could use any program you wanted to search for game servers, it even had its own built in thing (but alot of people used a 3rd party program like gamespy to find servers).
As you connected to the game server it would authenticate your CDKey with a "WON" server, I dont remember what WON stands for, its an acryonym. I think it was some 3rd party company that did the CDKey authenticating.
I never had any problems with this because it was all run in the background and was pretty fast, and I think I read that if the WON servers were down then it would skip that part and you could automatically join the server without authenticating your CDKey.
Well in the past 2 years valve decided that they didnt want to use WON anymore so they came up with a new program called "Steam."
Steam was an additional program you had to download and install on your computer, its bloated and slow. Now your games will automatically be updated, even if you dont want them too. Logging into a game server takes alot longer, I dont know what steam does in the background that makes it take so much longer to connect but there is a significate difference between the two systems, and get this to play a single player game you will have to be connected to the internet, so it can authenticate.

I've never been a big online player, although I've been known to play friends one-on-one with Mechwarrior before. I'm more into single player games. However, City of Heroes is changing my attitude to multiplayer games. It's too bad that I had to cancel my account due to a lack of funds. It is the first online game that I've ever enjoyed.

only because I got into first person shooters playing the shareware Wolfenstein in college. It was my first pc game that wasn't for the Commodore 64 or ATARI 2600. The Mesquite (town outside of Dallas) boys done good! There are only a few left of the original team, John Carmack , primarily.

I'm building three new comps; one for me, one for my wife, and one for my daughter. My son is getting my old P2.4.
