Maybe I'm a snob, but I'd feel lesser if I didn't get into Gryffindor
Or Slytherin - that has some definite A-list mythos about it.

But Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw - while certainly the students in them are good as both students and morally/ethically, and decent people - it just seems that to be in Gryffindor means that one has the highest potential, the best mind, the best heart. Like the difference between McKinsey and other, lesser, consulting firms. Or the difference between MIT and the University of Wisconsin.

Am I wrong for thinking that Gryffindor gets the best of the best, and that not getting into Gryffindor would mean that I'm somehow lacking?

Is this just my perception, or has Rowling written it in such a way?

1. I agree
Although wasn't Cedric Diggury (sp?) from Hufflepuff? He was cool.

3. Actually, Slytherins have the highest potential, the best minds
They just have this nasty habit of turning to the dark side (yes, I know I'm mixing movie metaphors)

4. Yeah, I know Slytherin is mostly the evil mirror face of Gryffindor,
but not quite - since Slytherin also has to cater to ALL the evil fucks (republicans) and other stupid people (rightwing republicans, freepers). So you get Draco, who is a bit of an underachiever, and his dudes (homies, I guess, is the current "street speak" for their role) Crabbe and Goyle, who are obviously dumb-as-posts shitiots.
