I hate car shopping
My car got stolen 2 weeks ago which is a HUGE pain in the ass and it had my 64 cd case in it, full of course and my prescription sunglasses. So now i'm on hold until 30 days of it being missing passes and then i can buy a car. Heres my problem, i have to have a sedan, it's a must, i need it for business. A manual transmission is also a must, i loved my car, it was only 6 months old but it was nice and very zippy but i don't think i can bring myself to buy another of the same, turns out it's a high theft target which i didnt even consider upon buying it, my mistake there. So i'm looking around, telling the sales people, "Just looking, no buying for another 2 weeks at least". I can't find anything i like, the sedans are either a v6 auto tranny only or a 4 cyl with a stick but no horsepower so i'm thinking maby i should just buy the beetle that i've wanted for many years now and when i have to drive people to look at a house they'll have to deal with scrunching to get in the back seat. After a week of driving a stripped down rental taurus i'm about to cry.

I really want a beetle and i really don't want to spend more than $20k and i'm really tired of sedans, i need a break from them.

2. VW dealers are great.
At least the one we have here in Oklahoma is. I'm sure you can find whatever you need there. Great Gas Mileage, and Manual transmissions are easy to find. Good luck.

4. PT Cruiser. But the turbo might put you over $20K.

5. Try a Subaru.
You can get that in a manual transmission.

I used to have an Infiniti G-20, also a manual, and loved it. Not sure if the replacement to that model line comes in a manual, however.

6. Remember, peak oil just around the corner....
get yourself a Toyota Echo, or anything that is good for 50 mpg or more.

Or if you can get one from Canada, a 92-mpg Smart

The Smart might be bit small for clients (i'm assuming real estate), but the housing market will crash within a of couple years anyway. Trust me, you'll thank me later.

9. Toyota Echos are EVIL
unless you live in a climate where winter is not an issue. I swear my Echo sensed a snowflake 30 miles away and decided to skid. It also was really exciting to drive in heavy wind.

7. Go to the lots on Sunday, don't buy new
More unsolicited advice from Argumentus:

Go on Sunday to window shop (no dealers). Also, I've sworn never to buy another new car. Total rip-off. A one year old car costs half as much as it did when it was new, and is most likely in great shape.

8. VW JETTA TDI
42/48 MPG. Try it, you'll buy it. Passats are also nice. 1.8T or 2.0TDI engines standard. Base transmission is standard.

Alternative to a hybrid and you can run it on biodiesel. Also get the lock that goes on the break pedal. Pay for the lojack, it is a transmitter that is hidden in your car, and is activated with your permission if your car gets stolen. These things should help reduce the chance your car gets stolen....

11. Toyota Matrix
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 12:48 AM by gtrump
Just got an '05 XR 4WD and love it. If you're looking to save gas, get the 2WD model (32/38 if I remember right). It's a cool-looking car, is inexpensive, has decent horsepower, and it has a huge back seat so your taller/wider clients will thank you. The back seats fold flat, creating an enormous cargo area.

I traded my Subaru Forester for it. I loved the Suby, but it was starting to have mechanical problems and my local dealership's service dept. is a joke. One month later I'm kicking myself for not getting the Matrix sooner. I like everything about it.
