2. birth control
Seems to me that some states (or maybe the fed gov't?) have passed laws allowing this kind of crap.

I know Missouri was at least considering it. Not sure if we passed it or not. Wouldn't be surprised, considering our insane legislature.

6. What are they gonna do next? Say that antibiotics are evil?
Don't laugh at that one because I am not joking. Not long ago, the "doctors" in Romania, and other Soviet eastern bloc countries used to think that way, calling antibiotics "evil western medicine."

Is this were we are heading, but instead of "evil western medicine" it "goes against the bible?"

These people aren't acting as doctors and pharmacists - they're acting as moral judges.

increasing the number of unintended pregnancies.

10. These fun dies
Have no qualms killing abortion doctors and stopping other people who don't believe in their sick "god" from getting help.

When will people who do not want to be dominated by arrogant theologians say no to them..with their fists...or whatever else it takes to oust these bullies out of positions of power. When will people embarrass,ex[pose, shame, or treat them as they treat others. When will restaurants clinics, and other places turn away the "born again"and treat them like the hypocrite scum they are?? The fundie Christian theocratic bullies have declared a culture war on everything that is not like them, including human beings... So how long will it take for people who are not like these fundie freaks to get active, vocal and maybe more aggressive and stand up to this'relatively small minority' hell bent on making America into a theocratic empire that looks more like 15th century feudalism than a democracy?

8. It might depend on where the pharmacist is. I read one case where
the pharmacist got into trouble because he refused to give the woman her prescription back after he wouldn't fill it. The cops were called and everything. That outcome was fine if you won't fill it, but you have to give it back so it can be filled elsewhere. This is insanity. Next they will have all of us women wearing those Burkas.

9. They should lose their license to dispense medications..........
and practice medicine. They are throwing out the Hippocratic oath by putting themselves and their ethics before the welfare of their patients. Shit like this is deplorable and goes beyond the pale.

younger, noncommittal voting age folks.

After the DC march, I really decided I had to do something. So I'm starting my own personal petri dish of next generation activists.

Snacks, a movie, and a discussion group. What more could they want? Nothing like having a bunch of girls leave your house completely outraged and ready to go kick some voter registration ass.

I'm hoping they'll tell 2 friends, and they'll tell 2 friends, and so on, and so on.....

22. Not a true statement.
There may be little ethics in the pharmaceutical industry, but there is a great deal of ethics involved in the being a pharmacist or a pharmacy technician.

Putting the onus for the greed of the drug companies on those whose job it is to dispense medications (a demanding job, since I am about to start my internship on that) is like putting the onus on the doctors for the greed of HMOs.

24. OK. You're right, and my post was, upon reflection, quite stupid...
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 05:29 PM by Westegg
...and I apologize. The fact is, I know full well the difference between the industry itself and pharmacists/pharmacist techs. I responded in a knee-jerk way to the original post and didn't use my brain. I just dropped $300 at my local pharmacy (the folks there are great), and that cost was WITH insurance, so I've got a bug up my ass about the industry in general.

You're quite right for calling me on this. I have to learn to "think" before I "post." Man, I hope there's a drug for that...

I would think the chain could fire a pharmacist who refused to fill a prescription.

26. It's outrageous
I recall reading about the CVS incident some time ago. If I had been the customer I would have yanked all of my prescriptions (worth several hundred dollars per month) and taken my business elsewhere. While I have no need for birth control I was on the Ortho-Evra patch for a month last year for a hormonal imbalance, so it is true that not every woman who is on birth-control is on it for that purpose.

These doctors, pharmacists and the like need to keep their personal religious and moral beliefs off other people's bodies. The doctors are in the business of practicing medicine. The pharmacists are in the business of dispensing drugs. Neither should not be trying to dispense morality.

27. If it doesn't, it should.
These people are so narrow minded. What, do they hold a funeral every time they (or their wives) get their periods? The pill generally does 2 other things before it prevents implantation anyway- preventing ovulation and changing the consistancy of cervical fluid making it less hospitible to sperm. I guess we're just supposed to be sexless drones or go around pregnant our entire adult lives. :wtf:

30. Bingo!!!!!!!!!!!..................
Its a no-win situation. If a person can't get birth control due to some doctor or pharmacists moral convictions, and a woman can't get an abortion due to the feelings of some of our leaders, then the only option is not to have sex unless its for procreation.

Its also incredibly sexist. Do these folks also discourage condoms? Almost all the BC limitations proffered by folks like this have been aimed at women. I have seen very little outcry against male birth control, and I seriously doubt any will be raised in light of this issue.

Yet another degradation of our basic freedoms!!!!

29. More proof
that the "pro-life" movement isn't about life -- it's about controlling women's sexuality.

And I do know that some women take the Pill for non-birth control purposes -- are pharmacists going to screen for that before they dispense pills?

Sheesh.

IOW, their twisted sense of morality dictates that their first loyalty is to their god, not to their fellow human.
