I know vegetables are good for me but must I really eat them

I'm sorry, I hate vegetables (main reason why I'll never be a vegetarian).

But I'm sitting here eating a bowl of snow peas (one of the few veggies I'll tolerate) really wishing it was a bowl of chocolate chip cookies

BTW, I steamed the snow peas with a touch of olive oil, garlic and Mrs. Dash spices.

Help me, I hate veggies!!!!

5. believe me, I've thought about that
I have a juicer at home - I wouldn't have a problem with chugging down a glass of veggies 2-3 times a day

4. I hated veggies too
until I became a vegetarian. :) I started out eating practically nothing but imitation meat products (which are very good, even for a meat-lover like myself). Over time, I started to like veggies more as I found myself eating them more. I still don't like most veggies raw, though, I have to cook them, but I'm making progress.

I think veggies are like beer, they're an acquired taste. :)

9. Elad, what burger do you suggest?
I love Morningstar hot dogs, but have never found a burger that was close to passable. Any suggestions?

:)

For veggie burgers intended to taste like meat, there are a few gems. I like Gimme Lean Ground Beef by LightLife. You can use it just like ground beef, form it into patties or meatballs or whatever - and it tastes awesome.

If you have Trader Joe's near you, get their Trader Joe's brand Burger Nouveau. Those are to die for...

Morning Star Farms makes a lot of good stuff, but their products are generally artificially colored/flavored and not vegan, so I avoid them, but they're fantastic for newbies who want to taste their old meaty favorites without the meat - few brands rival Morning Star Farms for authenticity.

For veggie burgers made like chicken, I strongly recommend Health is Wealth chicken-free patties and their buffalo wings as well.... I'm addicted to those, I buy them by the case sometimes. :)

18. Thank you for those...
We're at Trader Joe's at least once a week for their broccoli fleurettes and Wild Salmon. Burger Nouveau is now on the list!

(Did you see/enjoy the DG fireworks? I thought this year's was the best show yet...)

20. Ha, I feel stupid...
Your name is chiburb, and I asked if you had Trader Joe's near you. :) Of course you do, I also live in the suburbs. I skipped the DG fireworks and went to the Lisle ones, was at a friend's house. They sucked though, didn't start until 10:45! What is that??

If you live in DG though, you must be close to me.

26. Yep. I know that because of the beautiful pic you posted...
A couple of months back. It had the DG logo on it...

I'm in the 75th/Lemont area and watched the fireworks from my upper deck. And they started at 9:30! :-)

7. I hate most veggies, too
So I eat a lot of the ones I do like, which are:

onions
spinach (fresh and cooked in some ways, but never canned)
alfalfa sprouts
lettuce
celery
most chinese vegetables
green peppers
mushrooms, but they're not really vegetables.

I like eggplant if it's cooked either in garlic or with lots of cheese. I've got a couple of recipes to try.

8. Maybe start with veggies you DO like...
You say you have a few you like, so try this:

If there are three you can tolerate, make sure to eat one of them every day. Today it's snow peas. Tomorrow it's corn on the cob (with butter and salt!). Friday it's steamed broccolli or cauliflower (with butter and salt!).

I'm not a big fan either, but it isn't too hard to work one in every day. And don't forget V-8... very flavorful veggie juice, even comes with calcium added.

It's a starch. Corn doesn't count

15. these are snow peas
I like my peas still in their pod because I can't stand the actual taste of the pea (horrible consistency). I also like snap peas (also cooked in their pod)

So I drink lots of V-8. If you could stand drinking your vegetables that is a solution.

21. V-8
Yeah, I was going to suggest a veggie "smoothie". V-8 has so much sodium, that's the only drawback.

I eat my veggies with stuff that's great, like my favorite nuts, or some cheese or crumbled feta cheese. Vary the seasonings too -- rosemary is nice. I even put Grill Mates Montreal Steak seasoning on sometimes, for a peppery flavor. Or, add a tablespoon or two of salsa if you like tomato and a smidgeon of fire.

22. I LOVE veggies
I didn't for the longest time but then one day started devouring them.

Back before we were parents and had the time and energy to cook at home more, my wife and I would load up the grocery cart with (in a typical week): broccoli, asparagus, onions, potatoes, carrots, baby spinach, baby arugula, Brussel sprouts, fennel, eggplants, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers, and anything else that caught our eye. YUM. Neither one of us is a vegan though. I think I was healthier then. I look forward to owning land someday so I can just grow my own :-)

23. What about grilled veggies?
brush with olive oil (you can flavor it with garlic or spices) and grill briefly on both sides. Grilling works with almost any firm-ish vege - carrots, squash, red/ green peppers, eggplant, asparagus, corn, green beans and snow peas.

Thing is, it's too much work to grill them.

I mean, I just have to face facts - I hate veggies, but I'll eat them because I know it's what I have to do!

27. Do you like cheese?
Cheese makes lots of veggies taste better!

Cauliflower, broccoli, rice, cream soup, and cheese make a nice dish. I've also added chicken or turkey to make it a meal. Green beans, cream soup, and cheese is good, too.

Twice baked potato casserole is good. Bake potatoes, cut up and layer with bacon, sour cream and cheese, bake/microwave till cheese melts. Could also add ham, chives, or onions, too.

Acorn squash baked with butter, brown sugar or syrup is tasty. Spaghetti squash can be an alternative to pasta.

Potato salad with cucumbers, green onions, celery, radish, eggs, and olives tastes yummy. A salad with assorted greens, veggies, cheese, bacon, ham, raisins, and cheese is good.

Tomatoes and lettuce on a sandwich or burger makes it taste much better. A BLT w/cheese is really great!

Fresh veggies are always better than canned! Do you have a garden? Watching things grow and picking fresh tomatoes or whatever does make one feel good, too!

28. DON'T microwave your broccoli-
it removes most of the nutrients- it's worse than boiling it.

steam it, stir-fry it, or eat it raw.

29. Color helps too
Simple trick -- keep a red bell pepper stocked in the fridge. Slice up maybe a quarter of it and put it with whatever veggie you're making (I put 5 or 6 kinds in one steamer myself).

The red color makes it look more interesting, more appealing.
