Seemingly angered after getting beat to two parking spaces at the Mall of America in Bloomington on Monday evening, a 59-year-old man got into a confrontation with one of the other drivers, repeatedly slashing and stabbing him.
The man first tried to pull into a spot in the south surface parking lot about 6:45 p.m. when the space was taken by a 26-year-old driver, who would later be stabbed, said police Cmdr. Kevin Hinrichs. As the suspect was driving away, another man motioned that his spot would be available. But that, too, was taken by another driver, Hinrichs said Tuesday.
"You can imagine the guy gets frustrated," he said.
The suspect parked and then walked back to the first spot, where he might have been laughed at or ridiculed by the driver who took his spot, Hinrichs said. Women with the two drivers had an argument before the men became involved, Hinrichs said.
