NUDE, Male Restaurant Must Admit Women Court Says
<snip>

NEW ORLEANS -- A brewski in the buff doesn't justify an all male bar.

The Louisiana Supreme Court has ruled a Shreveport country club must let women into its sit-down restaurant and bar.

The Southern Trace Country Club has three restaurants, but only the Men's Grille is open on Sundays. Women were barred from the grill.

The court rejected claims that members sometimes dine there in the nude.

Witnesses said some of the male patrons would only wear a towel or even less in the bar. The court ruled barring women from a public dining area is unconstitutional, even if there's a locker room-like atmosphere.

4. Refusing service to an individual is one thing,
Refusing service to an entire group is quite another.

Welcome to DU.

6. Thanks
Explain if you would, please?

What's the difference between refusing service to one woman and all women?

7. Refusing service to an individual can be justified
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 12:47 PM by mac56
if his or her behavior warrants it.

Refusing service to an entire group of people prejudges them. "Guilty until proven innocent" by nature of their membership in this group. Can't be justified legally or ethically.

9. "No shoes, no service"
Is that prejudging a entire population? Namely, the shoeless one.

11. Now you're being disingenuous.
Requiring individuals to wear shoes can be justified as a public health requirement. "The shoeless" are not a recognizable class of people. Everyone is shoeless at different times: you need to choose to wear shoes if you want to enter that establishment.

2. The women were warned
now if they are "disgusted", it's their own fault.

Let them in.

Hairy ball sac?

Sounds like my kind of place. I wonder if you can chew tobacco or smoke cigars?

8. Well, I'm off to patronize the women's locker room at my local gym
It's far past time these old stereotypical gender-based exclusions came to an end.

14. This seems to be a non-issue...
Hey, if women want to eat in the same room with naked men, big deal...

It's their choice, and if they puke after seeing a naked, overweight, 70 year old man stand up and walk past them on the way to the locker room, I don't want to see any lawsuits! :)

16. This is the weirdest bar/club I have ever heard of!
Sitting at the bar in the nude? Sounds like they were definitely up to something, if you ask me. :freak:
