I can't get off my husband's fundie grandmother's email list
My husband's grandmother is a 73 year old fundie. She's generally a sweet woman, but absolutely clueless about politics and a Shrub-lover to boot. She constantly sends both of us a plethora of bullshit about our wonderful president and how horrible and rotten the Dems are.

We're both good liberals and I have begged my husband to email her and ask her to stop sending us these stupid emails. He will only send her an occasional Snopes link when she sends out something that is clearly an urban legend -- he won't just tell her to stop sending the crap.

I'd say something myself, but I'm already not the most popular person in his family and I have a feeling I'd make a few enemies among my in-laws. So I just have to resign myself to just sending her emails to my spam folder.

Sigh. Thank God my immediate family is all Dem.

1. Try the Serenity Prayer

and get a good email filter that let's you suppress messages that contain various key words.

After all, dont want to risk being cut out of the will.

2. My sister does the same thing....
she thinks Bush is awesome. :puke:

I started hitting reply all and sending snopes links to everyone she sent the original email to. It worked. She doesn't send me any of that crap anymore. My nephew is hooked on Snopes now.

6. It's amazing the number of people who no longer send me crap
because of my "reply to all" on their bullshit, with snopes links, and often a bit of a sermon.

My cousin (her hubby is nice guy, sort of, but a real empty-headed racist homophobic ignorant shithead, mostly) just stopped sending email altogether. Others have stopped the bullshit, and only send personal email. Don't know if they still pass on the urban legend and lying bullshit to others. And another cousin LOVES sending me some of the most heinous stuff - cuz she knows I'll immediately get the truth and send it out. Love her dearly! :-) But sometimes I'm not sure where she really stands, politically. She's a tad conservative, and a former marine.

3. Does she ever send you anything of any merit, like a personal note?
If not, I'd just set a filter for her and send her email straight to the trash when it comes in so you don't even know it's there.

4. Funny how "Shrub lover" and "clueless about politics" go together.

5. two options
1. if she sends junk to just you and hubby; ignore it and delete unopened.

2. (this is the one I like) if you are part of a group list, do a reply all debunking and or rebutting everything she sends. She will eventually become embarrassed at being shown as a fool in front of all the people she is sendgin crap to.

I had a sister-in-law who used to do that crap. Two "reply all" responses and she changed her ways.

f#@k 'em if they can't take the truth.

9. I go one step further
Reply all, snopes or other links but I always include "God is never honored with lies." I never get more than 2 emails of this type from the same person. Actually, I am getting almost no emails these days. Oh, well!

11. there's an interesting
addition.

However, I don't know whether any gods truly exist, and if they do, whether they care about anything that happens on this planet; nor would I ever claim to understand their mind, attitude, or preferences. On the whole, I think I will continue to skip that addendum.

I don't get a lot of email either; I prefer it that way.

:hi:

13. I respect your opinion about the existence of God
I personally believe in Him. But just as important, fundies believe in God, in fact they support Bush supposedly because he is "God's man." However, one of God's chief attributes is that He is truth, every fundie knows that. This has become my way, of attacking their hypocrisy and at least one person has confessed that she had to start looking at * in a whole new light.

14. there you go
but I couldn't do that without making myself a hypocrite, and then where would I be? But I do support the idea of slappind down the lies with any weapon one can wield so good on you for your extra step.

8. I used to get it
during the height of the "lead up" to the big invasion, but now I don't. I do think it's a delimma though -- in my dream, I reply with a tutorial on dolphin sex and pictures of Gene Simmons' tongue, but in reality, I just filtered anything from them into a crap-o-ramma folder.

I suspect they will vote Democrat, in the end, though -- my dad's a Republican, but the rest of his family are full-on trailer park Dems, (except for the taxidermists that hang out with Ted Nugent), and my mom's a solid Dem and her family are Republicans -- rural farmers, who, no joke, look like they just stepped out of an episode of The Waltons.

It's hard to decide what to do with zealous RW family in times like these. Some I try to talk to, some I just ignore.
