Is the Drew Carey show supposed to be funny? |
|
I watched The Drew Carey Show for the first time tonight and found it utterly not funny. How has a show like The Drew Carey Show stayed on television for so long?

1. Because people love ignorant assholes who legitimize their own ignorant |

assholishness. That's how busholini got close enough in 2000 to steal the election and how he has not been thrown out of the white house physically for his serial treason.

But it's already canceled, and they're just playing these new shows in the summer to burn. It used to be funny, be they're not even trying on these summer shows.

3. You're catching it on its way out ... |

Past seasons were hilarious. And very innovative. They did some weird live shows where for example, a bell would ring and the actor would have to come up with an alternate punch line on the spot, shows with live audience participation, etc. It really has done some groundbreaking stuff.

Different people have different standards regarding what they'll find funny. I suspect the Drew Carey show doesn't appeal to someone who might like, for example, Fraiser? It's a case of sophmoric humor vs sophisticated.
Some people focus what they find funny into narrow bands, while others run the gamut. Others might find some things funny one day, but not the next.
All that is why humor is a difficult business to succeed in, at least over the long haul.

5. I liked Frasier and I used to like the Drew Carey Show |
|
Yes, they were very different. But they were both funny. The Drew Carey Show isn't funny anymore, and I bet Drew Carey would probably admit it.

7. Hmmm, I haven't watched Drew lately. |

Sounds like maybe that's a good thing?

The show started really going downhill when Christa Miller left, but I suspect that's coincedental. I've only watched two episodes this summer, and I didn't laugh out-loud a single time. The shark was jumped some time ago.

I've watched a couple episodes...not all the way through, and I didn't like the show...it wasn't funny to me. If you want to see funny, watch "King of Queens" or rent Kevin James's DVD: "Sweatin' The Small Stuff". It's him doing stand-up on Comedy Central. HILARIOUS! :D

show on television or anything, but it was kinda funny.
I watched it when I used to watch TV sitcoms, something I stopped doing atleast 5 years ago.
Either way, as I became more political it become more difficult to watch shows where the main character was a repuke. That may sound silly (especially considering I could probably see a movie starring a repuke actor), but it may just be that these shows became less funny over time.
Hell, until a week or two ago, I thought the show had been cancelled or moved to WB or some other "lesser" channel.

11. No, it is not supposed to be funny. It is supposed to piss you off |
|
for wasting your time watching it. After watching it a couple of times, I began to have negative feelings toward the state of Ohio and Ryan Styles (he was good on "Who's Line is it Anyway"), though that bad memory is fading and I am willing to forgive both Ohio and Styles.
Is this shitty series still making new shows?
