1) At my wedding, my wife and I decided since we had nearly everyone from out of town, we would have just a big party instead of the rehearsal dinner. It was basically a kegger with appetizers. My mother and her family decided they would do their own thing and blew it off.

2) My mother or grandmother (still not sure who) took over our table at the reception, so we wound up being off to one side instead of center. I am guessing the reason was so my mother and her family would be between my father and his.

3) My mother exploded about the invitations and decided she would pay for new ones...before she had even seen them.

4) My wife and I went to a marriage counselor BEFORE we were married in order to figure out how to deal with my mother. After 5 sessions, the counselor informed us we were fine, but my mother really should come in to deal with her issues.

5) My grandparents hired a Jewish judge without our knowledge to do my vows since no Rabbi would co-officiate. They did this on their own and demanded we do it. Of course we wound up having to pay for it.

6) My wife's family (the really cool side) are my inlaws. My family are our outlaws.

7) My family could fill a Dr. Phil Marathon

Funny thing is, my wife and I are at 9 years this fall...

I hope the wedding was everything you, and more importantly your son and DiL hoped it would be, and that it was thoroughly enjoyable.

5. Thanks and congratulations on..................
9 years. Our sons wedding was a little troublesome at first because the two families are so very different. My family tends to be a bit loose, rowdy, and in your face (fun). Her family is very quiet and subdued so we thought there might be a problem getting the two together. The rehearsal party was laid-back and done in our yard. A lot of fun getting the guitars out and kind of prepped her family for the actual wedding and reception. Turned out alright. Her family really loosened up and everyone got along well. I guess we lucked out and our concerns were without merit.
