Half-naked motorist arrested with kiddie porn
http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/WinnipegSun/News/2003/11/22/264909.html?+target=

TORONTO -- A man caught driving naked from the waist down while watching kiddie porn on his laptop computer has become the first man in Toronto charged with allegedly stealing an Internet connection. Toronto police laid a theft of communications charge after busting a man driving the wrong way down a one-way street, downloading child porn using stolen wireless Internet signals.

The slow moving car was pulled over around 5 a.m. on Wednesday by a police officer who allegedly found the pantsless driver watching a movie of a 10-year-old girl (edited out some disgusting stuff).

Police allege the man downloaded the movie using an Internet connection he intercepted from a nearby house.

3. So he's just an all-around bad guy!
Internet thief and child pornographer...nice combination, loser.

If anyone steals my wireless signals for that crap, I'm going to be pissed!

5. Should we be using Web Encryption?
I am wondering about that since I can sit in my car and browse as well as send emails from the street in front of my house - maybe from even next door.
With an omni, I could get a 2 mile radius.

6. Yeah, definately secure your network.

You don't want to get investigated for whatever someone stealing your connection does with it. Someone could steal it for sending out spam or hacking as well.

It'd be cool if everyone could share their connection and I could hop on DU while I'm waiting for the bus or whatever, but it looks like people are gonna abuse that.

9. Definitely.
I'm currently running 64-bit encryption, but I'm going to change to 128-bit soon. It's just a matter of reconfiguring.

I'm also running a firewall on each computer as well as the hard firewall in the router. So far, though, my PC firewall hasn't even had to work - the router firewall is blocking everything.

10. The other side of the argument is to secure your PCs
but leave the wireless open, that way you can have a chance of claiming ignorance mp3s the RIAA traces to your IP address.

I'm not saying ~you~ do that, but it is a fairly valid point.

That's all? Wasn't he also speeding, drinking, snorting cocaine, not wearing a seatbelt, with an expired license, and typing election-stealing code for Diebold?
