I'm about to toss my laptop over my balcony!!! HELP !!!
Frequently (very frequently) when I try to post a message, do a search, or type in a new URL, I get the following error:

lexplore has caused an error in USER.EXE. lexplore will now close.

I have Windows ME. It came with the computer - I didn't choose it. Is there anything I can do to stop this? Also, any advise on new operating systems, XP etc.

Thanks

1. Got Linux?
Get Mozilla. Have a friend go online and download it/ burn it for you. If Mozilla doesn't work, try these:

first off: hit cntrl+alt+delete and end "USER.EXE". Just a guess, but you might have a virus.

Second: try getting Lindows or Mandrake linux. If you don't want to commit to an install, get a copy of Noppix, which can run from a cd.

Third: crowbar.

2. don't bother with linux..
get windows 2000, or XP if you can. linux is a gigantic pain in the ass for a non-techie.

or just download mozilla firefox browser and use it.

Windows ME is horrible.

4. Hard to say
User.exe is a common location for crash to surface.
If the error only occurs while surfing with IE, try switching to Mozilla.
http://www.mozilla.org

Also, if you are using any Pop-up blocker: uninstall it. Another good idea is installing the Sun Java runtime

6. I know this is not helping, but I still use Macs
and never encounter these problems.
I only use Windows when coerced into it.- at work. And then only as necessary.
I have an iBook, connected wirelessly to the web via SAFARI.

It just works.

7. Safari isn't perfect either
It is based on the Open Source Browser Konqueror. Both had and have critical security issues.

10. True.
I am just saying I have never had any problems with it. My system and browser always function seamlessly. I never encounter errors like this person does.

I DID have problems like that using XP at work.

13. Cool -
but I am not suggesting this person go out and buy an Aluminum or used Titanium Powerbook... even though I would reccommend it. Its a $$$ issue.

Lesser of evil evils is to go with XP if you hafta be on Windows. Its kind of like driving a YUGO in good condition after giving up on the old EDSIL
but it would be better.

8. I suggest having a shotgun handy.
Get a good "frisbee-style" thrower to launch your computer when you scream "PULL". Point carefully and release a cloud of lead into your computer while cackling and giggling in an insane manner. 1/4 stick of dynamite would do well also.

14. I'm with you. Upgrade to XP. But first, download Mozilla for free.
Since it's internet explorer blowing up, switch browsers. It's free, it's as easy to use as IE, and it less hack prone.

11. Use an underhand throw
Try to get as much elevation into it as possible, and it should really add to the damage done to the laptop. If your balcony is a few floors up, it should be destroyed completely. If not, I'd suggest finding a tall building to throw it from. Hope that helps. :)

15. Probably should make sure nobody is walking by.
They would probably get a little upset if they are hit upside the head with a flying laptop.

16. Update your virust scanner
and then do a full scan of the system for everything. Go to the microsoft website and make sure you have all of the critical upgrades.

If the error started after installing something new, uninstall it.

Uninstall any buttons or toolbars that have been added to IE. If that doesn't work then shut everything off (start-run-"msconfig"-startup-uncheck everything-reboot) and then test your version of IE again.

If that doesn't solve the problem then I'd say to install Mozilla (unless you want to stick with IE, then look for a new version of it).

As a last resort, you can always fdisk your hard drive and reinstall Windows ME.

...Am I missing anything?
