bowie undergoes cardiac surgery
David Bowie underwent cardiac surgery in Germany: report
1 hour, 33 minutes ago

BERLIN (AFP) - British pop legend David Bowie (news) reportedly underwent heart surgery in Germany last month prompting him to cancel his European tour.

Bowie had required medical treatment June 26 after performing at a festival in the northwestern German town of Scheesel, reportedly for a pinched nerve in a shoulder.

But according to the German daily Hamburger Morgenpost, the 57-year-old rocker had an acutely blocked artery requiring emergency surgery.

1. There's something about shoulder pain
It was shoulder pain that detected my gallstones and my need to have the gallbladder removed.

Hope he has a speedy recovery.

3. me too!
Sounds like this procedure is pretty safe/minor but the condition isn't.

he's got a website:

...but it's overrun with wingnuts, so avoid the P & R section unless you like talking to amoebas!

2. YIKES!
He's my all time favorite. I had the same operation a year and a half ago at the tender age of 41. He should be fine.

4. I'm glad they caught it early
He smoked for so many years. I wish that they'd caught Robert Palmer's problem before he dropped dead. Both of them look great on the outside, but they're falling apart on the inside. It should be a good reminder to everyone that you don't have to be obese to have heart disease.

5. It's another example of how we post war boomers
some of us; haven't clicked that, the future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Live every day like it was your last for it might be.

6. Angioplasty
Of a single vessel. It doesn't sound too bad, but I certainly agree he should rest and not try to do 11 more tour dates!

Get well soon, David!!

7. No it's not bad...
as I said upthread, I had the same thing done awhile back. A couple days in the hospital, then up and about. The hardest part was the bruise and soreness on my thigh where they inserted the catheter thingy. The ol' ticker was fine immediately.
