Why must all female anchorpeople have emaciated faces?
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 05:12 PM by jpgray
To paraphrase Jon Stewart, what are these anchors, spokespeople for bone structure or reporters? Daryn Kagan, for example, bears a striking resemblance to my memories of He-Man's Skeletor. Don't even get me started on Woodruff or Paula Zahn--perhaps if you find marionettes or ventriloquist dummies aesthetically pleasing their 'look' is interesting to you. I miss the times when anchorwomen looked like women, not teenaged sex kittens or Holocaust victims. Isn't there a happy middle ground in there somewhere? It's interesting when watching the BBC, or some of CNN's foreign correspondents, this weird corps of the cheekbones doesn't seem to hold so much sway. Other reporters for CNN such as Christiane Amanpour look perfectly normal, I might add, but it seems there is a definite trend towards a certain 'look', and that look seems weird and scary to me. :silly:

(And if you see this thread as a deranged, half-coherent ramble that is slightly offensive, then you are being halfway too generous.)

1. Why can't they look like real people? I love that scene from the 1st
Batman movie when something happens and the anchors can't wear their makeup and every day they look worse and worse - bags, lines, droopy hair - just like us! It was great!!!

5. I had forgotten about that scene!
The first Batman was actually a pretty solid movie, now that I remember it.

3. it's just that the corporate big wigs that do the hiring
value "looks" over anything else when it's women they are hiring. And they take "looks" to mean built like a fashion model.

6. I was thinking this morning that, as much as I despise Candy
Crowley and Lisa Myers, it is refreshing to see women of size in prominent reporting roles. Whether they could ever make the anchor team is a different story, however. America just doesn't want their female talking heads to be big.
