RIP Syreeta Wright
Stevie Wonder's ex-wife dies at 58 of breast cancer. She co-wrote several memorable tunes with Stevie, including "If You Really Love Me" and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered". He produced two LPs for her in the early '70s, one of which spawned the hit single "Spinning and Spinning". Sad.

1. Damn.
I seem to be the only person in the world who remembers Syreeta's 1975 single, "Harmour Love." Granted, it missed the pop charts completely and peaked only at #75 R&B, but I still find it hard to believe that nobody else knows that record!

RIP, Syreeta.

2. Same Syreeta as
"With You I'm Born Again" from 1979 or 1980?

This is sad.

3. Sad indeed
She had such a sweet voice. Always loved her duet with Billy Preston on "With You I'm Born Again", which is currently making me misty as I type.

5. Heart Broken. I'm a huge fan of Syreeta & she was tremendously talented.
My condolences to her family and, of course, to Stevie Wonder (who she still continued to work with).

RIP my long-time musical friend.

6. Damn! That's a downer!
Most folks know her from "With You Born Again" from "Fastbreak" w/ Billy Preston, but I remember her airy soprano from her backing vocals on "If You Really Love Me" (which Stevie wrote for her—just saw him perform it and mention that on the Flip Wilson marathon on TVLand) and her lead on "Come Back As A Flower" from "Secret Life of Plants".

What's strange is that she's the second member of Wonderlove (Stevie's legendary back-up singers) to pass away from that illness. The other one? The magnificent Minnie Riperton of "Lovin' You" fame (and the mother of SNL's Maya Rudolph). The third superstar from that group is Deniece Williams ("Let's Hear It For the Boy", "Silly", "Gonna Take A Miracle", "Free", "Too Much, Too Little Too Late").

Godspeed Syreeta, Godspeed.

7. Sad news.
She was talented in her own right. Sorry her life was cut short.
