Am I the only one who hates DU's new "we look like FreeRepublic now!" look?
Bring back the old Index page PLEASE.
(Truth to tell, laziness is forcing my post. I just enjoyed visiting the DU main page for article updates, then going straight to General Discussion with one click. Now it takes several, which my laziness cannot forgive)

1. For a few months now, I've had my bookmark set to... |
|
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/so that it takes me to the latest threads. After checking out the latest threads, I might be in the mood to go to the Homepage... HTH

I always use that link in my "favorites". People have to problem me to go to the DU homepage since I rarely go there.

2. The expert recommends: |
|
Create a bookmark linking to GD, and then place the bookmark in the toolbar of your browser (that is at least possible with Opera).
Then you are always just one click away from GD, wherever you are.

3. The toolbar is the best thing |
|
I use Safari and I love the toolbar bookmark system. What I do is put a bookmark for all of my regular sites in the toolbar, change the name to something very short (such as "du" for the main page, "duGD" for General Discussion, "nyt" for The New York Times, etc.
That way I am one click from anything. Right now I have 40 of these bookmarks up there (yeah, i'm an info junkie).
I never did like the tabbed browser feature that everybody is crowing about these days.
btw, I disagree on the new DU home page design. I like the new layout quite a lot better than the old one.

4. I like the new look a lot |
|
and to be honest I didn't think I would. The best opinion pieces on DU are now right there out front, which is nice for us old-timers but even better for any newcomers. Those new to the site will see exactly what we are about, what we have to offer to the political discourse. Ithink it offers a much more inviting and informative look than it used to.
