What school lunch did you hate?

For me, it was the cheddar cheese pizza and the month old tacos with orange meat.

1. pancakes/french toast

breakfast for lunch was GROSS. But you got 3 little smokies, which rule...

2. The enchiladas.

They had that "institutional" taste. The sauce was orange. ORANGE! Orange grease, more specifically.

3. Sloppy joes

How you can make a dry sloppy joe is beyond me, but my school did it every single time.

4. Fish sandwiches on Fridays...

at a catholic high school.

I swear I thought for years that if you caught a fish and scraped off the scales you would expose the greasy breading.

Mine was a Catholic junior high, and they ordered in Filet O Fishes from McDonald's!

5. Beef Stew

9. Spaghetti was my favorite!

It was terribly low quality, but damn it tasted good. It was loaded with salt.

I actually liked most of the hot lunches at school, but I often had to bring in extra seasonings from home to make them taste right.

I think it was some kind of goulash.

10. Creamed chipped beef

it was a grey cream sauce with tiny maroon shreds of something floating in it. I commented to the headmistress that it was in the school colors, grey and maroon, and we never had it again.

12. I hated the hamburgers

They were so dry and the fixins sucked. I guess they wanted us to use ketchup as the vegetable per Reagan's suggestion.

But my number one complaint was that we only got ONE onion ring. What the hell?? Those lunch ladies are such a tease..

18. Our burgers were mostly soy, and they were awful

I liked the pizza, though. It was the individual squares of pizza-I've looked at the Gordon Food Service stores and haven't been able to find them there for sale. Wednesdays were always pizza days-you got pizza, a salad consisting of lettuce and dressing, and one of these really good peanut butter and chocolate bars.

13. Red beans and rice

I hate beans, so this one was always pure torture for me.

15. Fish sticks (or nuggets) and mac and cheese (yes, together)

Why did they decide that was a good combination?

The mac and cheese was gluey. The fish was from some indeterminate animal. To this day, I won't eat anything that's just labeled "fish." No fish sticks, no filet o'fish, no fish nuggets. If the menu says, "fish tacos," it better damn well tell me what kind in the description. (I like gefilte fish, though, go figure.)

16. "Chili Egg Puff"

at the dorm cafeterias at UNT.

There were 2 types of people at school. Those who liked it, and those who were never going to put that crap past their lips. I was of the second group.
