What is the Best Movie Trilogy Ever?
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 12:03 PM by Kid_A
I can't make this a real poll, because I'm too poor to donate $$$ to DU. But if I could make a real poll, these would be the choices:

Star Wars (Original Trilogy, not Special Editions)
Star Wars (Prequel Trilogy, even though Ep III isn't out yet)
The Godfather
The Matrix
The Lord of the Rings
Terminator
Back to the Future
Indiana Jones
Baz Luhrmann's "Red Curtain Trilogy" (Strictly Ballroom, Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge)
Alien (Don't count Resurrection because it blows)

There are tons I left out, but you get the idea...

21. Agreed.
I'm more in the LOTR camp, but White, Red and Blue are incredible - and I found all three in a really affordable DVD box set.

3. Star Wars, even though "The Empire Strikes Back" sucked in comparison to
"Star Wars" and "Return of the Jedi"

I'd say the Indian Jones trilogy is the best, but "The Temple of Doom" sucked even worse than "The Empire Strikes Back."

YOU THOUGHT THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, ARGUABLY ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER, SUCKED!

That's like saying you hate puppies! You don't hate puppies, do you?

;)

Don't be comparing apples & oranges, now, now....

BTW, in my original post, I wrote that "The Empire Strikes Back" sucked in comparison to Episodes 4 and 6. I didn't write that it sucked.

9. Empire was the best one.
If for no other reason than the tight fight choreography.

12. And the deeper character development.
And the darker tone.

And the better music.

And Yoda.

And the battle of Hoth.

And the most Jaw-Droppingly Awesome scene ever (you know which one).

And Lando "Shaft in Space" Calrissian.

And Boba Fett being cool for the first and last time.

And the scene inside the asteroid.

And the duel with "Phantom Vader".

And the list goes on and on and on and on and on...

26. Which was the most jaw-droppingly scene to you?
I love the battle on Hoth - that one always gives mea big thrill, but I'm curious what you see as the jaw-droppingly awesome scene. :-)

28. I was talking about the Luke/Vader duel in Cloud City.
The choreography isn't as good as in the prequels, but it's still the best fight in the whole series. And it ends with one of the most famous lines of all time.

That scene has always struck me as the stand-out scene in that movie, which is really saying something when the entire movie is full of great scenes.

33. Right.
Well, the choreography in the first Prequel was the best (and possibly one of the only good) things about the movie. . . but Empire is a close second. Though I would say my personal favorite part has always been the chase through the Asteroid Field. Particularly Williams' music in that scene, he gets more "creative" there than in the rest of the score.

14. wow. that's an opinion i've never heard before.
not passing judgement.....just it's the universally accepted position that empire is the superior movie in the trilogy. i've never in my long geeky life ever heard anyone saw that empire sucks. (i actually loathe much of "return of the jedi".....)

but i can't stand harry potter, so what the hell do i know?

The best would be if they made starwars 7,8,9, but lucas is to crazy to let anything go on without his approval, and he'll pass before they can get those started.

8. The Kingdom
by Lars von Trier, even though I'm not sure the third one was ever made. If it had been, it would have been the best trilogy. Even though it was actually 12 one-hour episodes of a show on Danish television.

10. When are they going to complete the filming of the "Danziger Trilogy"?
Those lazy bums didn't even complete the first one. The movie "The Tin Drum" only covers the first 2/3 of the novel. Of course "Cat and Mouse" is short so they could bundle the last 1/3 with it.

24. If Lurhman's is a Trilogy, then include Oliver Stone's
Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, and Heaven and Earth.

Personally, I'd bump LOTR for Pokemon or The Lion King saga, or even the first three Barney episodes, but that's just me.

Just watched it again the other day, then, for reasons too complicated to explain, played it for a classroom full of Grade 5 students. They loved it.

32. Why watch a copy when you can see the original
The Dollars trilogy steals directly from Akria Kurosawa. Only thing original is the conclusion to the triology Good/Bad/Ugly.

I admit it, I'm a snob sometimes. That's why I posted the Apu trilogy.

35. from start to finish, LOTR
Godfather 1 & 2 were stronger overall as a duet, but Godfather 3 was weak.

the Original Star Wars trilogy is second because of how weak Godfather 3 is, then I'd go with Godfather after that. I'd rate Godfather 3 lower than Return of the Jedi for a 3rd movie.

Terminator suffers from the same problem as Godfather, but the movies are not as good overall. Though, I would rate T1 & T2 over Godfather 3.

Indy Jones' trilogy, upon further reflection, is pretty strong overall... Better than Terminator
