Um should it bruise THIS badly without being broken? And if the tip is broken, there isn't much they can do about it, is there?

It split a bit and keeps bleeding... it's been like 4 hours.

1. sorry to hear that

i broke (compound fracture) the tip of my ring finger catching a baseball bare handed (it took a bad hop, had to grab it with my throwing hand). it bleed alot and i had to get stiches, i don't recall having to have the bone reset though.

good luck, you might want to have someone take a look at it.

9. Winky gets her cast off NEXT week, took her in for a check up today..

and she got yellow tape put on it!

AND she didn't throw up in the car!!!

3. Some ideas on treatment

Have you wrapped it to stop the bleeding? Let the blood soak into the bandage. It will clot better.
Have you iced it? That helps with the inflammation.
Can you move it? Without a lot of pain?
You could always call your doctor if you have questions.

6. I have done all those things, actually. I've never had a wound continue to

bleed, I'm a real good 'clotter'.

It's quite painful; the 'cut' is at the base of the nail across the top, almost a triangle flap from the nail bed. Movement isn't an option since that's a static bone being the finger tip.

5. you should get an x ray

I recently slammed my finger in a car door. It bruised very badly and was extremely painful. It was not broken, however. I recommend at least going and getting an xray. Of course, even if it is broken, they will just splint you. If not broken, it should stop hurting in a week. I feel your pain. My injury happened in the beginning of May, and my nail is just now falling off. Gross, huh?
