I just saw SPIDER-MAN 2. And it rocked!

From time to time, Hollywood puts out a sequel that surpasses its predecessor. SPIDER-MAN 2 is one of those sequels. Everything about this film improved on the 2002 original (which I also enjoyed)!

The secondary characters were more fleshed out, and some got a lot more screentime than they had the first time out. I was particularly pleased to see so much of Peter Parker's high-strung editor, J. Jonah Jameson.

Doctor Octopus was truly a memorable villain, particularly those kick-ass mechanical arms of his. And he redeemed himself at the end, vowing not to "die a monster."

The women were allowed to at least attempt self-defense--Mary Jane when she tries to whack Dr. Octopus with a two-by-four, and even Peter's elderly Aunt May, who clobbers the bad guy with her umbrella!

The action sequences were breathtaking, especially the fight scene on the elevated train.

The plot delved much more deeply into Peter Parker's tormented psyche. It also picked up where the first film left off, rather than simply telling the same story again, as sequels usually do.

And the ending left just enough hanging to make me anticipate the inevitable SPIDER-MAN 3.

For a "mere" superhero movie, SPIDER-MAN 2 really delivered. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing it again!

1. Couldn't agree more!
We saw it last night and loved it. I sat through most of the movie with my mouth hanging open at the action sequences. I liked that Spidey revealed himself at last. Those mechanical arms were creepy!

2. The villian was so much better...
...I hate not having facial expressions for the Green Goblin in the 1st flick- they should have used make up, considering that DeFoe already looks just like the comic version...

I agree that the comic relief provided by the J. Jonah Jameson was great...

...great review...

5. The elevator scene with Hal Sparks was hilarious.
Elevator Passenger: Nice Spidey outfit...
Spider-Man: Thanks.
Elevator Passenger: Where did you get it?
Spider-Man: I made it...

Elevator Passenger: Looks uncomfortable...
Spider-Man: Yeah it's kind of itchy...

Spider-Man: it sometimes rides up in the crotch too...

3. I heard it was full of LIES.
My brother-in-law said that Sam Raimi is VERY one-sided and doesn't tell the WHOLE story of Spidey and Doc Ock. So I'm not giving them my money! I MIGHT go see it, but I'll pay to see "White Chicks," and SNEAK into the theatre showing "Spider-Man 2."

6. I second that...
The director has rigged the narrative to push his own twisted ideology. It is a spectacularly deceitful work based on unfounded speculation, the juxtaposition of unrelated events, fallacious logic and factual mistakes.

7. Well, he did not lie, he just invited conclusions...
Whether power REALLY comes w/ great responsibility or not is strictly up to the viewer...

I doubt this movie changed the minds of too many in the pro-mad genius camp.
