Calling all old movie fans! Have you seen this film?

Plot Summary for
Just Imagine (1930)
New York, 1980: airplanes have replaced cars, numbers have replaced names, pills have replaced food, government-arranged marriages have replaced love, and test tube babies have replaced ... well, you get the idea. Scientists revive a man struck by lightning in 1930; he is rechristened "Single O". He is befriended by J-21, who can't marry the girl of his dreams because he isn't "distinguished" enough -- until he is chosen for a 4-month expedition to Mars by a renegade scientist. The Mars J-21, his friend, and stowaway Single O visit is full of scantily clad women doing Busby Berkeley-style dance numbers and worshiping a fat middle-aged man.

This film is wacked! It's great fun to see how they imagined 1980 back in 1930. TCM and FMC plays it all the time. Check it out!

1. sounds a little like Metropolis
The original, not the thrice-damned Anime BS (nothing against Anime in general).

2. They were half right...
* Diet supplements are pills. Some people really do use them to (partially if not primarily to replace food. Dieticians have to remind people to eat and not pop pills.)

* Government is arranging marriages - between men and women only. Allow the regressive repukes to take control, they'll decide if people can marry outside their skin color, via their IQ, or other ridiculous parameters. I can see forced abortions of perceived as imperfect children (let's hope they don't find the gay gene or whatever, we all have a right to life.)

* Pity airplanes hadn't replaced cars... but with cell phones, this would make flying impossible. :-)

* Test tube babies are not uncommon.

I've got to see this flick... thx! :D

3. YES!!!!
the only science fiction musical. It's very silly, but has that whole Hugo Gernsback vibe.

El Brendel was a wonderful film comedian little remembered today. This has been on TCM and I missed it?
