Why do so many people think I want to listen to their crappy music?
I hear it through my apartment walls, I hear it blasting from car radios when people are working on their cars. 99% of the time THE MUSIC SUCKS.

3. I couldnt agree more..
....a manifestation perhaps of the offspring of the 'me' generation from the 70's?- the bass on these stereos drives me crazy- we go and politely ask them to turn them down in my neighborhood..that always seems to work...

7. There is some pretty bizzarre stuff
from Frank Zappa's catalogs that would work too. I remember a very funny acid experience with the Mothers of Invention in the background....

4. Find a copy of "Song X"
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 08:01 AM by fudge stripe cookays
by Pat Metheny and Ornette Coleman to blast away at the idiotic apartment dwelling neighbors.

It's just a cacophony of noise. We left this album at our DJ station at the old record store where I worked long past its prime. Specifically to chase customers out of the store.

Trust me on this.

8. Oh GAWD! I saw Metheny and Ornette in concert.
Years ago when the album was released, my mom got us tickets to see them at Wittenberg University. I was so friggin' stoked that I was about to see a legend in person. (Coleman)

WHAT CRAP!

It was louder than any metal band I had seen in concert and the music was horrible. I'm still amazed that two of my favorite musicians in the whole world put out such a shitty album. It was the worst concert ever, and we left after about an hour of ear-splitting torture.

After college, and a healthy education in all musical styles, I decided to give Song X another listen to see if maybe I just didn't "get it" the first time around as a high-schooler.

Nope. Still crap.

15. I think I have that lying around somewhere.
Haven't listened to it for years, though. I don't even remember if I liked it or not. I'll have a look when I get home in a few hours.

I'm a huge Tim Berne fan, but that album puzzles me. Let me refresh your memory. Ornette Coleman tunes played at hardcore thrash speed. Basically, harmelodics ala Slayer.

Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 07:19 PM by tigereye
very good. I saw him with his son Denardo? one time. And the Art Ensemble... except that the Lester Bowie is also dead. What a great player. Sigh. I wish Sun Ra were not deceased as well. Now, I'm in a slightly wistful and avant jazz mood.

whoops wrong place.

Probably wouldn't have chased me out. Or Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music. Or John Cale in some of his more adventurous periods. Or Art Ensemble. Or... I should stop now, huh. :) :hi:

31. You were one of THOSE people....
Weren't you?

One of the ones who continued blithely thumbing through the Bartok CDs, or examining EVERY T-shirt in the boutique section when it was obvious everyone in the store was CHAFING AT THE BIT to go home! (How many versions of the "Spuds McKenzie" logo could one possibly buy in a lifetime...I ask you?)

OR you stood in the video section at midnight, going back and forth between My Beautiful Laundrette and Down By Law, just not sure what you're in the mood for....

YOU Were the one that continually made that announcement for..."Attention Sound Warehouse customers, the store will be closing in 10 minutes. At this time, we ask that you please make you final selections and bring them to the nearest register. Thank you for shopping with us, and we hope to see you again soon."

Grrrrrrrrrr....
Thanks a lot, buddy!

6. I hear ya
I have a neighbor who likes to crank it up when he's working on his truck and I can hear it in my computer room. One day I put up with it until I was ready to explode and then ran outside and bellowed at him "Could you please turn that down, I can't hear myself think!"
I said the last part without thinking, as though I were possessed by some irritable spirit. Later I realized the words had been planted in me decades ago by my dad and they were just waiting all this time to burst out.

17. I know what you mean...
we have a car wash just up the road from us. There's always some goof up there washing his vehicle with the music blaring. My solution was to buy a bullhorn off of eBay; so now when some idiot is blaring his music, I go out in my yard and politely tell him to turn it down. If that doesn't work, I walk up to the place and politely ask him again. And this is the usual response: "Oh, dude, I didn't realize that I had it that loud."

Well, let's see: you have the whole fucking neighborhood vibrating from the noise; and you didn't realize that you had it that loud.

We've talked to the owner of the car wash, and he has given us permission to do whatever is necessary to keep these people quiet. At least, he's on our side.

I LOVE music. Hell, I've been a radio dj for 20 years; and I've been known to crank it up, too. But, my god, I don't have a $5,000.00 sound system crammed in a $50.00 Chevette
that makes the ground shake like an 8.0 earthquake.

20. We have a noise problem too
We live at a busy intersection, so we get the traffic noise, people's music, and obnoxiously loud motorcycles that have to stop at the stop sign right in front of my house.

Keep your noise to yourself, that's what I always say.

Selfishness and self-centeredness appears to be the way of the world today, at least in this country.
