Typical "Mallard Fillmore" cheap shot
The "Mallard Fillmore" comic strip at the strip's web site is from June 26th, and makes a typical cheap shot at third world countries.

http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/comics/mallard/about.htm

Don't forget, this is from a cartoonist who when is corrected about an urban legend, says he stands by his strip.

2. What urban legend was that?
I am unfortunately familiar with Mallard Fillmore, but I hadn't heard about that flap. Do you have the details?

4. Sorry, I forgot.
Forgot what it was, except that it was about Bill Clinton.

Tinsley though dismissed the Snopes debunking as "liberal," refused to even say "oops" and siad his strip was accurate and he stood by it.

Typical "conservative" nowadays.

3. I don't understand.
Of course it's an exaggeration to say that all the 3rd world countries have leaders who live extravagantly while the rest of the population barely gets by. It is just a comic strip though. Big deal. Not worth bringing extra attention to it.

21. You might not like this Beaver Believer....
I actually root for the Beavers in every game except one each year. The civil war is much more fun both teams are good. I'd rather see the Beavers win the Pac-10 title than one of the California schools. The Huskies are the team I love to see lose. Especially when Neuweasel was their coach :evilfrown:

24. Hey, no Husky bashing here, goddammit!
I never really liked Neuweasel either. Hell, I wish they would bring back Don James (best coach in the history of PAC 10 football) for one or two seasons and let him choose and train his own replacement properly.

11. "just a comic strip"
Come on. Let's not dismiss yet another mechanism that the right is using to spread its bile.

How about "It's just a radio program. Nobody'll believe that fat gasbag"? I remember hearing that kind of stuff about fifteen years back.

Words count. Pictures count. Comic strips count.

13. yeah, but it's a boring, stupid comic strip

What should be done about this comic that you find so offensive?

23. It's not the comic I find "so offensive"
It's refusing to understand (to try to understand?) all the dimensions of rhetoric as they are deployed to influence opinion.

Okay?

6. Can't right wingers make a comic strip that's FUNNY??
I know a lot of Republicans who have laughed at Doonesbury, Bloom County, and Boondocks over the years, because even though they made fun of their right wing heroes, they made it funny. I haven't heard of any Ralph Nader fans complaining about his recent "kidnapping" in Boondocks.

But this stupid waste of newsprint has no humor at all. None. How could anyone waste time reading it every day?

8. It's overly-simplified, presents difficult issues in black & white terms..
in other words, it comes pre-packaged for the freeper mind.

9. well, it is in the moonie times
so we know it's as good as anything else in there.

FRankly, I'm not offended by this strip, I just think it's tired and boring. He makes a decent point, in a way, that many nations have parasitic leaders who fatten themselves, figuratively at least, at the public trough when others are needy (like ours, kinda) but what a dumb way to put it. You need a scalpel for humour, duck-boy, not a sledgehammer.

20. Oh, look! Mallard Fillmore comics!
Hey, in one of these, he's talking with someone in close-up, and in the next panel it's a faraway shot with them both in shilouette, and in the last panel the other guy is saying something stupid while Mallard raises an eyebrow and looks out towards the readers with a pained look on his face.

I've never seen THAT before in a Mallard Fillmore comic!!! HEY! MAYBE HE COULD USE THAT A COUPLE THOUSAND MORE TIMES! :)
